I am slowly using up the layer, then will feed the grower and add the high protein supplement I have - that and the Japanese beetles should be good protein!

Plus all the meat products my mum throw ok to them.

Hmmm speaking of which - I need lunch! It’s already gone 1pm!
Note: Japanese beetles are not attracted to sushi. I tried! :idunno

Someone likes to dig. He keeps this up and the chooks will have a new bathtub.View attachment 3607144

Meanwhile the Invasion (about 4 days younger than Sherlock)View attachment 3607145Tuff is getting black breast feathers. That makes Horus his papa. Mama likely Pippa (stronger Colombian markings). Let me see if I can break down his mix then. 1/4 brown leghorn, 1/4 gold penciled hamburg, 5/8 buff orpington, 1/8 EE......I think.... :idunno(Or 1/8 BO, 1/4 Colombian wyandotte instead of the 5/8 BO)View attachment 3607152
Juan Valdez strongly suggests 100% Columbian coffee! (Just saying)

I've been cutting weeds this morning. Taking a short break before wetting down everyone's pen. The heat is exceptionally brutal today.

I haven’t seen a grasshopper in ages here! :(

Thank you for the wonderful step-by-step instructions! I do know how to catch bugs. 🤪 I just don't want to. I'm actually so excited to get our new coop and run where they'll have grass and bugs, at least for a while...and figuring a way for them to free-range. :D

Here the butterfly bush is flowering so the butterflies come along for the flowers and the chickens try to catch them. Piglet climbs up into the bush to get nearer.
So far, the butterflies are winning.
Piglet - failed again!

It's hilarious watching the baby chicks try to catch flies, they run and leap - and sometimes they do catch one. They have learnt that when I am in the office I have the fly swatter and I swat flies onto the floor for them :)

Yesterday one of the chicks sitting on my lap actually caught a fly that landed on my laptop edge hahaha - quick as a flash she reached over the grabbed that fly!

Talk about pro-active pest control!

You be very careful - that is just very hot, though I was expecting higher humidity where you are. It's 65% here.
