I am so glad that you also remembered the good times. It is important that we put the happy and sad together. :hugs:hugs
Yes, I don't really think you can have one without the other. You can be grumpy - but I don't think you can be truly sad without having loved something and lost it. Aurora captures that truth very well. The more love/happiness, the greater the sadness - but the greater the sadness also means the greater joy/love prior to the loss.

And, more hugs for you @rural mouse :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs

Yep know the feeling! I am going to mow the grass right down to the dirt today 👍

Keep the mosquitoes from breeding.

Meanwhile this is what I contend with…

Penne came in hopped on the bin and proceeded to crow in my ear… thanks buddy

Well, how else will you know how wonderful and handsome he is if he doesn't *whisper* it in your ear???:idunno

She sure told me!
Dakota jumped up on a pile of boxes on the porch where I was sitting. Then she squawked. Then she jumped over to the table next to me, staring at me, she squawked again. I extended my hand and she jumped up on my arm. Inside we went (where the good treats are) that Dakota, she ain’t no dummy!

Some outdoor therapy. My MIL was the one who gave us our first chickens, Silver being the only one we still have. She's flock leader and came up within a couple of feet of Sherlock today. I was feeding the birds bits of a banana. Sherlock jumped for her, was corrected and she displayed her agility and speed, getting across the open area to the olive trees before Sherlock turned to see where she went. Meanwhile he's being a charming puppy

If a mite silly. He also decided that playing in a hose can be fun

He kept pulling grass along with the water.

Meanwhile Storm posed

I think that's Nimbus with her. Cumulo appears to be popping Mama Storm's crest (going to be bigger). That little one is in too much motion to get clear pics at the moment.

We're waiting on a package arriving (requires a signature), then heading back over to help figure out funeral arrangements. Yesterday, we left Sherlock home as we knew it would be a long day. Hoping to bring him with today. The puppy antics may help cheer her dogs. The little one (a Shi Zhu) tried to attack the EMTs. He also spent most of yesterday attempting to lay by the foot of her side of the bed. FIL had just finished feeding her chickens yesterday when we arrived and looked so lost. Going to be a rough road for a while.

It will be tough for everyone - including the animals for sure. I am glad you are able to be there to help your FIL and that you have Sherlock and all the chickens to give you joy and distract you.

One of the nieces and her husband have been living here while house hunting. The house hunt just got put on hold for the immediate future. They're staying so he isn't there by himself. Not easy for them either, but together some comfort. They're looking at grandma's garden and her bee hives and attempting to keep them going. Help from the rest of us is readily available too. I'm thankful my FIL won't be out there by himself this winter. Come spring, re-evaluating everything will be possible. Meanwhile, cry, laugh, reminisce, go through 1 day at a time.
