They will when they're ready. Just as the girls laying eggs will happen when they're ready. I got the notification yesterday that the Invasion is 20 weeks now. No eggs yet, but Chia likely will any day now. Tuff has only been crowing for the last week or so (and sounds terrible so far)

Of course this also means that the ThunderStorm is 12 weeks. Nimbus is bigger (taller, rounder, not quite as long) than Lark and Indigo. The rest not yet. Storm is still hanging on to them, but they're spreading out more. I have witnessed ( in the last week) Storm attacking both Jessica and Pear (she actually squawked) for being too close to her babes. Twirp, on the other hand, is allowed in amongst them with impunity. T, J, and P are all above Storm in pecking order, but she seems to not care about it at the moment.

Your right, my OG crew took their sweet time getting around to laying as well. I think my first egg came when they were about 21 weeks oldish and the last to lay was about 26 weeks. The Orps are slow to mature so who knows 🤷‍♀️
Re: crowing

I am beginning to think my pullets will just wait till Spring to start laying.

Tippy is 26 weeks (or 6 months!)

School chicks are 23 weeks (5 months)

Sophia’s girls are 16 weeks (3 months)

Yep I am sure they will wait till Spring, maybe your boys will do that also.
I didn’t think of that but perhaps they will wait till spring. Thats fine by me, especially for the pullets.
That's from a few weeks ago as she was regrouping her tail feathers.

This is more recent.

I love her stripes, she is looking pretty darn good!

Ok, y'all, I need help deciding.

Looking at another pic for the fall pic contest. Which one?

1. First pic taken, then went for different angles

I did submit that chickadee under the tree branch pic. The contest allows up to 4 entries, and I'm wanting to be choosy, so only 1 of the above pics.

I'm thinking NOT 1, but between 2 or 3 :idunno
I like three

More free ranging with Storm Chickens!
WARNING: This is a 14 minute video.
That’s so much fun for them to get out there, do you have scorpions and large spiders? If so do your chickens kill and eat them? Or do they give them a wide space for safety?

I dreamed that Robin (my pullet who looks like she might lay her first egg any day) laid an egg! I hope that part of the dream comes true.

It was an absolute whopper, though. HUGE! I hope that part isn't true.
How old are they now? I don’t think mine will start laying until the Spring, I am ok with that, just eager to see what colour eggs they will lay.

The pullets are 22 weeks old as of last Sunday. I'm getting about 4 eggs a WEEK from my one laying hen right now, so having someone help with that would be nice. Stormy (the hen) would like to take a break!
Right now my Azurs lay every day, and my silkies, Rose is laying most days, and I haven’t seen and egg from Buttercup in a couple days - maybe she is starting to mount. Everyone else is moulting so no green eggs. And Raven hasn’t laid an egg in a couple days - that I can find at least haha!

So some days I only get 3 or 4, and other days maybe 7 or 8.

I don’t mind them taking a break in fact I am happy they do take a break. They can rebuild their calcium supply in their bones, moult and get new feathers for keeping warm, and just relax and not worry about about laying eggs in nest boxes.
