Me too, unless they are babies.
There aren’t any lights on in the barn but the night lights, which give me just enough light so I don’t run into things - and I can check the horses without turning on the lights.

I have found that the kiddos in the Summer House with those night lights don’t scramble around as much, and I figured the night lights give just enough light so they also don’t run into things 😆 same as with me.

If I need to check the chooks I have to turn on my headlamp, and that is bright enough to disturb them.

I have also fed chickens to my chickens, more than once. Our elderly neighbour gives us often left overs from the food his daughters cook for him and it's usually not stuff we want to eat, so it used to end up in the chickens plate, if it wasn't spoiled. They have had rotisserie chicken, couscous, cassoulet, boar and deer stew, and a number of old pastries that I didn't dare eat, due to that supply chain.
Now my elder ladies seem to have some trouble getting indigestions so we don't do that anymore.

I have a question regarding bone broth. I hope it doesn't come out offensive. It's not a thing here, but even if it was, the cost of gaz or electricity to boil broth for ten hours would only make it worth it if you had at least five liters of broth. It would be about the cost of a good rotisserie chicken, to give a reference. So now i’m wondering if energy is cheaper in the US , if you have special bone broth kitchen appliances that use less energy, or if it's something so incredible that it's worth the bill ?
I could imagine doing it on the wood stove..on a very cold day where we would keep it going all day long...

Bone tax , Pied beau the cockerel. I took a lot of pictures of him taking poses today !

I use a crock pot (essentially a ceramic pot with and imbedded electric coil. It is extremely energy efficient and cooks at a lower level.

Broth generated by my chickens are SO FLAVORFUL. Much better than if I made broth/soup from a store bought chicken carcass!

But, to your other point, yes, for good or bad, energy costs are a lot cheaper in the US. We have far fewer 'petrol taxes', so the cost represents the cost of acquiring the petrol (or electricity generated by coal or oil or whatever generates it), versus Europe where taxes on petrol makes it cost closer to what it REALLY costs - including environmental damage and/or cost of converting to more Earth friendly alternative energies.
