Wait - how did you fail your girls? I have never thought you failed them. You care very deeply for them and do your best. Among the many ways to fail to keep our chickens alive that is in our hands to rectify, and I know about this personally, it never crossed my mind that there was much you could do for Amber. It likely would have required magic to cure her. Aren’t your girls all production rescues? Maybe I’m remembering wrong, but didn’t she have reproductive issues, the bane of most of those poor hens?I shone my light on them but couldn't see anything. I only had the head torch and they were too cold to be something that hatched.
I know that people have found eggs that have hatched, I met a man a long time ago that bought free range eggs and got quite a few chickens from them.
I know I shouldn't want more chickens but it's so hard to resist my urge of keeping them. Because I knew absolutely zero before coming here and I'm not for one moment thinking I am a knowledgeable chickens keeper. But thanks too my lossesand the guidance I have obtained from people here combined, I know in an abundance a lot more today than even last year, let alone when I first got Amber flexi and my princess.
I'm still so very sad how I failed my beautiful girls.
Eggs in a supermarket or for sale in a store will need to be inspected prior to sales; those poultry farms are high production places as those are the only places that can afford to have inspectors check the eggs.I don't mean to boring but I'm repeating myself now.
This guy I met once went to a market and bought a load of eggs. He checked them all out and got himself a lot of chick's. I was just fascinated
Yes, I know it's the wrong time of year but I'm just trying to grasp a way of learning about this way of getting chick's.
The couple that was going to sell me some leg bars, sold the whole flock to a greedy selfish woman and I was gutted. Maybe it was just as well because of my conditions but something is making me want to get more.
Maybe I've got a split personality![]()

You bring a flashlight into a grocery store and tell the manager that you need to look at their eggs in a dark room. I dare you to!I use a flashlight to look at my eggs, in a dark location.
I might even try it, but I won’t confess to doing so!There's the old saying, there's always a first time
People need to give themselves some credit. Raising chickens to old age isn’t easy. There’s many reasons why chickens die off, and it’s not always the human’s fault for it. Sure, there’s things that can be avoided, but in the long run, the best we can do, (particularly), is watch for signs of sickness or injury.
Congratulations! So eggciting! And why don’t I know about this “Poultry Life”I got tagged to this - it features some fluffy butts from a few of our chickens.

- wash it with warm water and dawn dishwashing liquid.Help! I know I haven been around, things have been weird. But Eenie is really hurt! I hadn't noticed anything until today. She was a bit bedraggled but I've been so busy I've not paid them much attention.
Look at her poor neck! View attachment 3675428View attachment 3675429View attachment 3675430
It's like she's just been eaten! The pictures dont show how bad it is! I know it's likely Manny, with the other girls getting in some pecks. I don't have the new coop ready but I'd take Manny out if I did.
I do still have that little tiny coop. I could put her in it until she heals. I can put her where she can see the others, but not interact.
What do I do to treat her? It's all black and clotted. I didn't see any parasites or signs of infection.
Or should I just get rid of the rooster? This makes me ready to do it!
As Kelly said, you can’t tell if it’s fertile until about 5-7 days in an incubator or under a hen. All I can see in these pictures is a normal egg with a stable air sack. If you have an incubator you could tell in short order! Or you could crack one open to see if it’s fertile, then you would have some hope the others would be as well.So much for my abundance of knowledge.
I've tried seeing inside these eggs
What can you tell me from these pictures
