I shone my light on them but couldn't see anything. I only had the head torch and they were too cold to be something that hatched.

I know that people have found eggs that have hatched, I met a man a long time ago that bought free range eggs and got quite a few chickens from them.

I know I shouldn't want more chickens but it's so hard to resist my urge of keeping them. Because I knew absolutely zero before coming here and I'm not for one moment thinking I am a knowledgeable chickens keeper. But thanks too my losses :( and the guidance I have obtained from people here combined, I know in an abundance a lot more today than even last year, let alone when I first got Amber flexi and my princess.

I'm still so very sad how I failed my beautiful girls.
Wait - how did you fail your girls? I have never thought you failed them. You care very deeply for them and do your best. Among the many ways to fail to keep our chickens alive that is in our hands to rectify, and I know about this personally, it never crossed my mind that there was much you could do for Amber. It likely would have required magic to cure her. Aren’t your girls all production rescues? Maybe I’m remembering wrong, but didn’t she have reproductive issues, the bane of most of those poor hens?

I don't mean to boring but I'm repeating myself now.

This guy I met once went to a market and bought a load of eggs. He checked them all out and got himself a lot of chick's. I was just fascinated

Yes, I know it's the wrong time of year but I'm just trying to grasp a way of learning about this way of getting chick's.

The couple that was going to sell me some leg bars, sold the whole flock to a greedy selfish woman and I was gutted. Maybe it was just as well because of my conditions but something is making me want to get more.

Maybe I've got a split personality 🤔 😕 🙃
Eggs in a supermarket or for sale in a store will need to be inspected prior to sales; those poultry farms are high production places as those are the only places that can afford to have inspectors check the eggs.

I would say those places don’t have a rooster running with their hens, and free range hens are not really ‘free range’ they are pastured like cows or sheep.

If I wanted to sell my eggs at a store here I would have to have them govt inspected.

Do you mean the stories online about Quail eggs hatching that are purchased from a store? I don’t know how they raise or sell those eggs, but quite possibly they run male quail with females. What I am surprised about is the fact they were able to actually get any chicks after incubating quail eggs, after they were refrigerated.

People need to give themselves some credit. Raising chickens to old age isn’t easy. There’s many reasons why chickens die off, and it’s not always the human’s fault for it. Sure, there’s things that can be avoided, but in the long run, the best we can do, (particularly), is watch for signs of sickness or injury.

Well, you cant blame her, yummm
Help! I know I haven been around, things have been weird. But Eenie is really hurt! I hadn't noticed anything until today. She was a bit bedraggled but I've been so busy I've not paid them much attention.

Look at her poor neck! View attachment 3675428View attachment 3675429View attachment 3675430
It's like she's just been eaten! The pictures dont show how bad it is! I know it's likely Manny, with the other girls getting in some pecks. I don't have the new coop ready but I'd take Manny out if I did.

I do still have that little tiny coop. I could put her in it until she heals. I can put her where she can see the others, but not interact.

What do I do to treat her? It's all black and clotted. I didn't see any parasites or signs of infection.

Or should I just get rid of the rooster? This makes me ready to do it!
- wash it with warm water and dawn dishwashing liquid.
- spray with Vetericyn or something like that. Bluekote comes in handy to mask the wound from the other chickens if it is visible outwardly. (PSA: Bluekote stains everything (ask me how I know 🤣)
- large wound, I would isolate her after treating it
- small wound, it will heal
Note to you: chickens are amazing at healing up, it will likely be fine, try not to panic. Chickens are generally way more tolerant of doctoring than you think they will be. Once you bring them inside and get them under the water they zone out and calm down for the most part. I even blow dried my rooster and I kid you not he rolled over for me to dry his other side! Went way better than I feared.
So much for my abundance of knowledge.

I've tried seeing inside these eggs :(

What can you tell me from these pictures

As Kelly said, you can’t tell if it’s fertile until about 5-7 days in an incubator or under a hen. All I can see in these pictures is a normal egg with a stable air sack. If you have an incubator you could tell in short order! Or you could crack one open to see if it’s fertile, then you would have some hope the others would be as well.
