I am almost afraid to go to the barn to do chores, not that I am afraid of the dark or anything, but it’s a storm of wind out there and I just know those temporary panels are blown over again, I haven’t had time to bolt them down.

Well I can always check the camera…. Hard to tell, one might be down. Guess I should go and get those pullets down off the doors, and secure them for the night.

Edit - Ummm secure the chickens not the panels 😁 they might blow away! Esp that silkies hahaha

Happy Friday to All

Glynda is wondering, "What did I step in?"

I had to go back to work, so didn't get back out until dark. She seems okay. Decided tomorrow will do for serious care. It just looks so bad! We'll move the small coop next to the run. I checked out Sheba, her"bald spots" are angry looking and red. And she's balder than I remember. I hate to leave her with Manny much longer.

Poor girls.

I think both Manny and Tres are going to go. I'd keep Tres, and see if he's any more polite to them, but at 16 weeks, he's actually bigger than Manny!

Thank you folks for helping!

Also I want to remind you of the trouble I have with hatched eggs, and the Roos I had issues getting rid of.

But then compare to Sophia’s chicks all pullets I got as day olds 💕💕💕💕 no troublesome cockerels to get rid of 🥰

I suggest getting 2 or 3 chicks 😊💕 so cute and your older girls can train them up! And no worry’s about getting bad boys 😊
Sometimes you still have to worry!! IMG_2270.jpeg

Just remember, chickens are tough little suckers, and you are doing a great job. Also remember sometimes a wound looks worse than it is, dried blood always looks bad until you clean it away and can see the wound.

Mr P had a blood feather break on his head a few weeks ago - all that blood on his white feathers!! Gawd! For minute I didn’t know what was happening!

Just another note, if the blood is dried then it creates a sealed ‘bandage’ for a wound. Might be better to just leave it in situ and wait for it to dry i and fall off naturally - that is what I did with Red hen and her necrotic belly tissue from her flystrick. In fact it just fell off there a couple weeks ago.

If it is leaking though and draining that is a sign of infection or the wound not healing. In that case I would debride the dried blood, just soak it with warm wet water, for about 15 min. Then gently work the dried blood away - you can do this in stages you don’t have to do it all in one go. Eap since your gal isn’t used to being held.

I have to do this with my Arab mare when I pick scabs off her ankles and legs from her falling over in the stall all the time (ya she is still doing that), I just do a couple then she gets all bothered and mad and tries to nail me with a kick so I let her be. Then later in the day I pick some more off her.

Just go slow and do a bit. Rome wasn’t built in a day! And chickens sometimes do not want to be picked at too much. The only time I didn’t stop for a break was with Red hen and her fly strick - that was an emergency and had to be done asap (gross :sick ).

Remember you are doing a great job! Your chooks are wonderful 💕

Until they've been incubating for several days to a week, nothing will be seen. Even fertility is undetermined until AT LEAST then.
All this talk of incubating eggs 😊

Marty didn’t lay an egg today, maybe tomorrow she will, and I want to see which egg is Curly’s and which is Fluffy’s (one is darker I think curly lays the darker ones). I also want to get eggs that are rounder to hopefully get pullets - just going by that article 😁

Of course I haven’t made any decisions yet…. Still have a few days to make a decision. Maybe tomorrow….. or Sunday, just in case I turned the heat up on the office so the eggs wouldn’t get chilled ❤️
