Rain today! Yay! :celebrate:wee:ya:clap
Sir knight Jaffar is inside the house with me. (I don’t want his armor to rust!) the girls are out in the yard under the trees.
I’m kinda annoyed with the contractor who came by earlier this morning to give me estimates on painting the front house. He said that it should be knocked down and rebuilt. Yeah I knew that already, but I didn’t want to hear about it from him! :barnie

l have a dilemma. I have 9 cockerels that hatched this year, and I can only keep 1. I know you can't make the decision for me, but I will share my young boys with you anyways, as I struggle with this decision.

So, here are the contenders:

Contender #1

I don't have a picture for #9 - he is the youngest.

You gonna set up a live camera so we can watch the zap? It seems like something you'd do.
(And you could add the donation feature so people can give you money).
Ya - um nope!

I don’t have an electric up these days - but I will next spring to keep Reenie off my fences and round the run to keep coons and foxes etc from gaining access.

Everyone is enjoying scratching up the straw that spilled from the load I bought home

Well as much as I loved a nice BR I have to say the first wee little man. Or maybe #8…

All are eye candy - how can you choose?!

No you can use it but you would make some adjustments for their size and weight. I believe the minimum weight for the kind I have is two pounds, so really small bantams under that wouldn’t be able to use it. You can also put or add on a wider step so they can get closer, for instance there’s a wide duck step available, and others have added a strip of wood. Both of these changes make it somewhat less rat-proof because treadle feeders work by distance and weight but I think it’s still better than an open feeder. I don’t have rats (yet) but field mice.

What I’ve done is adjusted the stepping weight down by moving the springs in a notch so they don’t have to stretch as much, and I’m gauging the pullet’s ability to reach in, the distance from the treadle to the bin, which is good as is for Tedi and Diane Ida. I haven’t got Anna to peck in there yet, she’s afraid, but she is standing on it. Then I’ve put a little flat stone under the treadle so that it will bottom out correctly and not float.
I’ll have to check them out next time I am at the feed store.

Spoiler for @RoyalChick needed!
But I think it looks like she has shiny epaulettes! Besides wearing a mini-skirt.
Mini skirt hahaha yep and I know how she feels being cold wearing that mini skirt!

Mini skirt tax 😁

Penelope saw Topsy up in the back of the truck while I was unloading straw and then wanted to get in there also. But I closed the truck bed - didn’t stop Topsy from getting up on the bumper and trying to balance there (the sound of music ‘climb every mountain’ came to mind).

Next thing I know there Penelope up on the bumper!

Awww, if she wernt molting, I'd pick her right up and snuggle her. I'd love to see a pic of your sweeter heater set up. I'm in CT and the cold doesnt seem to stop them too much, but they all like to do a mild molt this time of year so a sweeter heater might not be a bad idea to have layin' around just in case. Nice lookin' chickens btw 🐓❤️
Are have it suspended in the Summer House (one of the night time housing areas), they like to hang out here during the late afternoon and mid morning snooze.
