I am worried about Sylvie.
Either the bullying by Piglet was worse than I realized or she has some feather issue.
She is all bald around her neck - it is hard to get a close look but I think she has pin feathers coming in. I hope that is what I am seeing.
She has not returned to laying since she was broody and her comb is not nice and red.
Do you think she has just stopped for the winter maybe?
She is sleeping in the nest box and I am not trying to stop her if that is where she feels safe from the demon Piglet!
The odd thing is I don’t see anyone pecking her during the day - this is all about roosting time.
It makes me sad.
But at the same time I hope that is what is going on and not some weird genetic disease that goes with her weird coloring.
Any words of advice or reassurance from all you more experienced chicken people?View attachment 3687081View attachment 3687082
Oh no! She went broody? I know that I was gone for a while but I never heard about that.
Poor baby, Piglet is being a jerk?
I’m sorry. I hope that she feels better. Also, your babies started laying?

The hens will go through a mini moult after being broody, and my grey ladies who are finishing up moulting are still sleeping in their nest boxes. I let them if they want, it’s easy enough to pick out poops in the morning.

Marty is broody, so I am letting her be, and hopefully she will grow back her feathers when she is done.

Does anyone have any coops that they would like to recommend that fits 10 chickens with room for more? My dad might be letting my mom and I get a coop, but he said that around 400 is our money limit. I know that Omlet coops are good, but WAY to expensive, as much as I would like them.
My suggestion is to build one. You are quite capable of doing this I am sure. When I was your age I helped my dad build a 27’ sailboat. And before that we put an addiction on our house and my sister and I were the ones to hold the measure tape, get nails, screws, etc. and my dad showed us how to use tools.

Today it’s so easy to go on YouTube to learn how to do things. Remember though measure twice cut once!

I am trying to hang this door for my HH-B but the darn chooks kept getting in the way - Cash was particularly evil! She was squawking and getting under foot - I just knew she wanted to lay an egg 😁

And she did and now it’s nice and quiet 💕 her first egg!

Let the guessing begin!

For Mug Monday curtesy of @BeastBaby and their suggestion, here are the four Hoover pullets. Wonder what colour eggs they will lay 😊

Babe (she can hit this out of the park)

Dr Ruth (the little pecker)

Sue (she ain’t no Boy called Sue)

Cash (she knows how to Walk the Line)

And one of the School Chicks - Butterscotch, someone pecked her comb and it bled all over her topknot. She should be laying very soon.

First Egg

And we have another first egg! From Cash, it’s an odd colour one I would describe as olive. EDIT - the egg is Babe’s 🤪

Here it is next to one of the Azures, and Misty’s blue green egg.

I am not far off saying those Hoover chicks would lay before those school chicks!

It’s just building one is expensive. My mom and I have pallets that we were gonna make a coop out of, but it’s just SO expensive with inflation and whatever. I’ll see what they say. Thanks 💕

Such pretty eggs! I miss getting green and chocolate eggs. I’m just getting tan eggs right now.

Look on kijiji for a used shed you can buy.

That would be easy to make into a coop.

My dad says just buy a coop, and I think (thanks to you) just buy a shed. My mom thinks that this shed I found was cute. My dad says that it doesn’t come with a nest box 😂 Sir, you can just slap two pieces of wood together and boom, you have a nesting box 😅
