My dad says just buy a coop, and I think (thanks to you) just buy a shed. My mom thinks that this shed I found was cute. My dad says that it doesn’t come with a nest box 😂 Sir, you can just slap two pieces of wood together and boom, you have a nesting box 😅
Never mind. No shed… my dad says to get a coop with a nesting box…

Oh no! She went broody? I know that I was gone for a while but I never heard about that.
Poor baby, Piglet is being a jerk?
I’m sorry. I hope that she feels better. Also, your babies started laying?
Sylvie is one of the babies and started laying a while back. Then went broody, gave up on her own, and now is not laying and looking motheaten.
Piglet started laying after Sylvie and lays a tiny blue egg most days.
Tassels just started laying and lays a small army green egg several times a week.
No eggs yet from Calypso or Pooh. Pooh has looked ready to lay for weeks but has shown no interest. Calypso has almost no comb development - I assume she will wait until spring.

My two older ladies are Babs and Bernie. Babs lays a big blue egg every day. I keep telling her to take a break. She shows no sign of molting either.
Bernie lays a lovely dark brown slightly spotted egg roughly twice a week - she stopped entirely as she molted but in the last few weeks has given me a couple of eggs. She isn't fully over her molt yet.

Cocorico, Cocorico bla, bla, bla! Sir Jaffar, need not answer every rooster in the neighborhood with his antisocial rhetoric!
I went out in my pjs and brought him into the house. I’m hoping that he will eat something and take a nap 😴! Lights are down low in here.
Update on the rooster. I took him out for a walk. The ladies all gathered around him and he started crowing. But he didn’t leave far away from me, so I picked him up and he snuggled into my lap. Ok big boy, we’re going back in the house.

Does anyone have any coops that they would like to recommend that fits 10 chickens with room for more? My dad might be letting my mom and I get a coop, but he said that around 400 is our money limit. I know that Omlet coops are good, but WAY to expensive, as much as I would like them.
I find Omlet really expensive. And their coops are small imo.

Could you find a local carpenter that would do the building for you? If he/she would let you provide the wood and wire it may work out cheaper.

The hens will go through a mini moult after being broody, and my grey ladies who are finishing up moulting are still sleeping in their nest boxes.
Oh! I did not know that. Maybe I am blaming Piglet unfairly. Though I must say she does go out to drive Sylvie off the roost.
Mean girl!

If I started over again, I would go with the shed idea add perches and find old drawers and wooden boxes to attach to the shed for them to lay their eggs

That’s what I wanted to do, but nope, my parents got two small coops that will fit 12 chickens. I wish that I could get a nice, big shed, but my dad said no. I really wanted a shed.

Ha, this is funny. Just look at the post number and the thread number. Post 172,380 and the thread number is 17238. That’s interesting.
