Well it would be awkward if I was haha 😄
My husband and I just think the little premades are cute. Boy are they hard to use though! Mine is kind of hard to clean, so I started weekly spot cleaning instead of emptying and refilling the whole thing every two weeks. And the runs get a bucketful of leaves whenever it looks low.
Haha, my dad prefers to build his! I’m nervous and excited to get my premade coops. I’m not sure if they come with a poop tray. What are the leaves for? I might have to steal your idea if it’s bedding or something like that!

The day is winding down. The birds are in the coop except for Flash who causing trouble with the roosting pattern. Now she’s roosting in the house. image.jpg

I think it’s amazing how much you care for and spoil those chooks. If I had any choice, I’d try my best to do the same. (But I don’t haha, thanks Dad…)

Hello everyone. It has been a rough 2 days and probably will continue to be so for a few more. Grandma is not taking her brother's death well. She has admitted she is not physically able to go to the funeral and she is finding that very difficult to accept. 2 of her sisters came to visit this afternoon. Truth be told they made it worse after they left.
I was wondering how you and your family were doing. :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs

It must be very hard for Grandma to admit that she can't go to the funeral...and to miss out on that social support that comes from everyone showing up and honoring her brother. Be strong! It will get better. Sometimes it will lapse back to like it happened just today - but other days, especially if you have something to keep you busy - it will just pokes it's emotional head in here and there. Cry when you need to. Hug Mom or Dad or Branch or someone else when you need to. Grandma's brother sounded like a wonderful man - cherish his memories, cry at the loss, but also laugh and love they joy and companionship he brought while he was alive.:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs

How long has it been since she stopped being broody? Maybe a post broody molt? She shouldn't be doing a regular fall molt given her age, but a post broody molt would make sense.

If she never reddened up after her broody phase and she is molting, she might not lay again until late January/early February.

If Piglet isn't bothering her during the day, and it is only roosting shenanigans, then I wouldn't worry too much about it; especially if she is indeed molting - many of my girls take to the nest box when molting and then return to the roost once done/mostly done.
Thanks. I need to look it up - but 3+ weeks since she stopped being broody and she never reddened up.
She doesn't seem sick - she was out late this evening with everyone else digging for stuff in the leaves. But she goes straight to the nest box at night.

They love to dig in them, and as they break down it helps with the smell of their poo. Next spring I'll be able to scoop all the compost out for my garden! I've heard of using mulched leaves as bedding but I'm going to try shredded paper mixed with wood chips for now. They have soft white pine needles in the nest boxes since we have a bunch of trees!

You wouldn’t want a bird like Flash. She mumbles in her sleep. Or maybe she’s just talking to me. I’m not sure 🤔

Does she stay out late past curfew? My children used to come home late. Drove me and the wife crazy!
