The horses....
Not really. Think about how many times (per day x 365 days per year) everyone in your household uses the toilet.

Now imagine having to dig a hole outside for everyone to use.....

And how large/how many you need to dig per year....

Now factor in the larger size of a horse....

Two-fer Tuesday
I took down the poultry netting today, and put it away till next year. The chooks decided they would then make a break for it and I had to herd them back from the front paddock.

Sorry kiddos your stuck in the run now. Except for Tippy who says no way I am outta here!

It’s been raining pretty good now for a few hours, and looks like starting to turn to snow.

Poor Bernie. This molting business is so undignified!
I am going to pop out and yank that feather out for her. It is the last remaining. The rest are new and growing in nicely.

Oh I tried that with Sophia’s one remaining tail feather - wow was it ever stuck in there! So I left it 😁 she was not happy with me trying to yank it out let me tell you! Maybe if I had hauled harder, but I figured it would also be loose!

Yeah. I did not manage to pull it out.

Imagine.......what do you mean imagine. I know !! If they are not boarded and you take care of them yourself, you very quickly learn their bathroom habits. You know in general how much they poop and it's consistency. Let them go a few hours to a day of minimal to no poop or get the runs. Panic kicks into overdrive and you are out there with a stethoscope listening to their heart rate, belly and taking temps while on the phone with the vet while daring them to even think of laying down or rolling.

Horse poop tax.

5 chooks! That’s a lot. And with wattles! Demanding today, huh?
I’m feeling better. Still sick though.

Thank you so much pretty girl 😍 You’re such a pretty lady!

Okay, here is my 5 chook tax, for reasons I’m still not quite sure about!

Okay, this is at the barn I ride at. The chickens up front are hatchery chicks, but the rooster came from my eggs. All of the chooks by the house also came from my eggs. The rooster that’s closest in a Bolt/Pastel baby. He’s really sweet. I can just pick him up. The rooster in the back is a BBQ/Pastel baby, and then the other chicks are BBQ, Bolt, and Splotch/Pastel babies. Besides the hens up front, like I said, hatchery babies!
There’s more than 5 chooks Pony!
