Make your own stip door. Take an old pillowcase or similar and cut strips most of hte way up, tack it over the door. Presto-chango - your own strip door. Will help hold some heat in and act a bit as a baffle for windier nights
Yes. That is what I was thinking about.
The door is low down so doesn’t contribute to drafts - but it would probably still be warmer with something like that.
I made strip curtains for the big nest boxes using an old vinyl tablecloth.

What would you do if you lived across that mountain range?

Keep growing them, you're getting your tail back!

2nd really cold night in a row and I am already over it. 20 something this morning when Rosie got on the bus. Horses water buckets frozen solid and the water hose froze. The leghorns must have started laying as soon as the sun came up. I did first egg run at 9 this morning, 2 eggs froze and cracked darn it.
Ya, hate winter - cannot stand snow, can’t wait till May 2 4 ( Canadas official start to summer).

Only 177 days to go…. 😁

Same 😩 And since having a second kid, my amorphous midsection doesn’t even fit my old winter coats like it should haha. Better order one for hannuka- don’t think I’ll be able to wait for a new Christmas coat 😁

Need to stop whining I am running out of baby photos haha!

Greetings all! Spent a bit of time today rain-proofing the roof of the coop. We hung plastic sheeting to make it run somewhere besides the coop, especiallythe roosts! Gotta keep those feet dry since it's getting down in the 20s some nights Hopefully that will do for this winter. I'm so looking forward to getting them in the new coop next year!

The molt is being especially unkind to my little red hens. Eenie is still at the bottom of the pecking order. Got to witness a dust-up between her and Meanie today. Poor Een. She looks awful. View attachment 3693910
I hope she gets some comfort from the fact that Meanie looks darn near as bad! Even her beard and muffs are scraggly. View attachment 3693912

Sheba continues to be my rockstar. The only one still laying. The molt has been kinder to her so far. She and Meanie are still BFFs and are in charge for sure. Best of all, Sheba is walking and standing like a hen and NOT a penguin! I was so worried about that, but now I think she was just sore all the time from Manny's constant attentions.View attachment 3693914View attachment 3693915
Tres has finally started crowing, according to my husband. I haven't heard him. He's a scruffy fella. View attachment 3693917
And finally, the only one who looks pretty these days is gentle little Uno...who I've decided will henceforth be called Goldie. She's become such a pretty little girl. View attachment 3693918View attachment 3693919

Goldie and Tres are right at 19-20 weeks... but I don't think I'll get any eggs this year with the days getting so short. I look forward to next spring.

Hope all is well with you!
Oh she is a lovely little lady - very pretty and yes Goldie is a good name for her.

Moulting this year seems to be so bad for everyone.

I’m feeling bad for Dakota. She’s a mess. That little angel has lost her wings, tail, hackles and body feathers.
Dakota would usually waddle right up to me and expect me to pick her up. But now she stays three feet away from me. She doesn’t even eat from my hand. I’m sure she’s scared and doesn’t know what is happening to her. I pray that she gets her head on straight and know that it’s just part of life to molt. And right now, she’s very confused. :hit
