I am only guessing. There are always foxes around my place and it was getting towards dusk (which is why I was out there). It didn't seem like her normal rushing around so I assume she was spooked.
It was very like Maggie (also a big gal) who once did a vertical lift off to avoid a fox that snuck up on her (and me).
Oh wow! How scary, that would terrify me! Not to mention the chooks.

Raising the Roof
The roof on the Hattie house is not solid. It is made from wire mesh covered by a piece of tarp. No one is living there so all I want is to keep it dry. It looks like this when viewed from the bottom.

I was checking on the ladies today and I noticed moisture in the coop portion. I pulled the tray out and found this.

Éowyn has been hanging out on the roof and I figure her nails have poked holes in the tarp.

There is a huge rain storm coming tomorrow so I figured I should act quickly. The one thing I really don't want is Hattie House rotting away. I searched what was on hand and I have the pieces of metal left over from the coop roof. So I decided to use 2 of them over lapped. I didn't really have time to trim them up so there is now an overhang on the front. That should help with rain hitting the front anyway.

It was a petty easy fix.

Surprisingly the lack of a roof did not deter the ladies from using the Hattie house today.

I’m hiding in the house. A neighbor from town is trying to find me. She’s a lunatic and I can never tell from which planet she comes from week by week.
I swear that the Central Valley orchards insecticides, are bleeding into certain peoples water supply! If she finds me, she’ll talk my ears off and then ask for money 💰. I am safe as long as she doesn’t see me.

Sounds like the song Lunch With Gina (by Steely Dan), here's the best of the relevant verses --
That must be her again
She's leaning on my bell
That cold psychotic ring
The one I know so well
So I'm nailed to the floor in the no-option zone
There's about zero chance she'll give up and go home

....
Now I'm in my apartment
The blinds down the lights out
The phone rings God help me
There's nobody home
I crouch on the carpet
Not breathing just being
Like meat on the bone

But it ends well!

Sweet Anne today. Everybody was out foraging now that the snow is gone!

I would have a hard time resting with fox around like that. I know you have the electric fence and a bullet proof coop complex but they would still keep me on edge.

After weeks of being 100+ pgs behind I finally made it! Busy busy. This time of year is when our Broadway shows start coming through, while I am grateful for the work, it makes for a very long week. Did one show the week or so before Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving with all the family, a show last weekend and on Sunday my mother in law passed away.
Our weather has been swinging like crazy. Below freezing for 3 days followed by torrential rain and almost 70! Yesterday was a mostly sunny if cool reprieve. Today has been cold and wet, don't think we got above 38. The days are so short I hardly see my chickens, but I popped out to hang with them for a min or two recently.
How many animals can you find?

My iPhone ringtone is 🎼“Who could it be, knocking at my door, make no sound, tiptoe across the floor…”

I had to hear it for myself. The song explains it perfectly! :lau
