I think she would be unhappy separated from Bernie. Maybe I should just let her do her thing. It really is impossible to make the Chicken Palace totally dark because of the ventilation.

That's what I would do.

I don't think you really can do much else. If you had access you could get her an implant. That would actually work.

Throw them both in the crate. But I think that she will likely start slowing up this year, that is what my kiddos did. And as Bob stated with any luck she will go broody (and if she does I recommend giving her some chicks to keep her from laying).

The chicks are a great idea. That would extend the egg laying vacation.

She is beautiful. Why was she available? Was there some tragedy?

She had been seen “scratching around” by herself for a little over two weeks in the neighborhood just south of me, and their local FB groups weren’t able to find her owners. I don’t doubt she had a happy home and just escaped and got lost.

Is this what a bantam Easter egger looks like?
Her proportions seem odd. She has either short legs or long pantaloons, and big wide eyes. I’m guessing she’s just three months old based on no-comb and that the box she was brought in had feather casings meaning she’s finishing a juvenile molt. But even so, I can’t remember if three month olds are this small.

She liked the little run I set up for her, but was none too pleased with being put in a hardware cloth box for the night. Sorry little lady, there are too many predators about to do otherwise! And my last pullets are still using their mini-coop in the run (not for roosting at night, just as a glorified daytime perch).

Now to name her

Yeah. Not always apparently. I am wary of messing with her biology with drugs. If I did I think I would try oral progesterone before the implant.
I inadvertently opened the door on her whe. She was on the nest - she looked so happy and comfy!

Hawk had my hen on Friday, i saved her and we are recovering. Dont leave them alone for not even a minute. I am beginning to think this particular hen may not see as well as the others. This particular hen was attacked by a fox in June too. She is so tough my Golden Chicken. View attachment 3703605

I think Dakota and Sir Jaffar are in deep conversation, even this late at night.

I'm constantly amazed at where they find wild water. I never considered there was some there. She was really enjoying it.

I hate it when the find yukky water but it really is unavoidable
