It is very windy and cold. Now that the panic has subsided she could be let out occasionally with them. I still worry about Bubba. Not in the sense of him being aggressive towards her but he is just way to big if he ever attempted to breed her. Bubba is heavy, easily in the 8 to 9lb range and maybe heavier.
Totally get it - though she seems to be able to move quite fast!

O
Total success! It’s early I know but I have made a major breakthrough with my hen Flash. She has been a tyrant to all the other chooks for a long time. I found out that all she really wanted was for me to give her positive attention. So I stayed up all night with her, just holding her, and letting her sleep in my loving arms. She talked with me, started the cooing that she used to do as a young Pullet.
She just wanted my attention and attention she got. Now she’s a real snuggle hen. If you want to stop problems within your chooks, try to find the causes and be patient with them and yourself. I’m sorry that I didn’t realize what Flash needed until yesterday.
Chickens are much more complex than I gave them credit for.

The good news is when Poppet is not dust bathing she will come running when I call her name. It had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I had a big bowl of white rice to give everyone, nothing at all. She is now up for the evening with her own dish of rice that she does not have to share.
Chicken and rice, they just go together!

Someone needs a real talking to. You can't do stuff like that without talking to someone first. I feel so bad for you. How scary? :hugs :hugs :hugs
After talking to him when he opened up the coop this morning she was intermingling with the other chickens. He just assumed I had finally gotten around to fully integrating her. I assume one of the other hens had managed to knock down door to her box I put in front of it at night so no one can get to her. Of course he now thinks I should let her be with them all the time since nothing happened to her this morning. I am too over protective of that little hen. I'm sorry, with my luck with keeping silkie hens I am allowed to be overprotective.

I am actually considering ordering me 6 chicks this spring! I’ve never done that before… always get mine from the feed stores or TSC. I didn’t know if you could only order six. But I am also afraid of what happened to Bob! I don’t think I could handle something like that😩😱😞😞😞
My feed store has ‘chick days’ and we can order through them, when they order in chicks they generally order extras that they then sell.

You should check with TSC and see if they can do this for you 💕 I want to order a couple each of dark Brahma and French cuckoo Marans.

I'll take all the rain and snow too! Wildfire prevention/I can breathe! assistance. I want all I can get.
If winter stayed like it has been so far this year I would be happy. But we all know the snow and cold will come blasting in at some point.

It’s the extremes that get to me, too much snow too cold….

This is enough snow for me! And the chooks.

So you COULD visit here....we may need to discuss eggs for broodies come spring....
Let the enabling begin!

They don’t bother with me anymore, I finally learnt to just knuckle under 😆

Which is how chicken math happened at my place - I went from writing ‘I have 13 chickens’ to writing ‘I have 32 chickens’!

I believe you don’t have any chickens at all per the rule of chicken math.
