They haven't had greens. Everything is dead here for the winter.Did they get any greens? Grass? Sounds like something long stuck in her crop that needs rearranging.
Except lettuce.

Originally someone picked one of his pin feathers and it bled like a stick pig!!! Blood everywhere, and since then they have pecked at his head constantly. Poor old manGet more of the blue stuff? I used Blukote for when Vulture got scalped, and to its credit nobody picked at her wound when she did get brought back around.
Although I’m curious what they’re pecking at in the first place. Is it the bases of his cut feathers that look like they need to be groomed out? Or wound picking? For the original peck, was he just dirty? Yea maybe keeping him with the old girls for a week or so to help him heal could help.
I hear you on that.My property and buildings, have seen a couple of scrapes and scratches. Like an old man who has been living a long time. Bumps and bruises are certainly present.
I just can’t do everything that I used to be able to do, and it’s getting harder every year
Yea sounds like something stuck in her crop, you can try some gentle massage of her crop to try moving stuff along. Very gentle like you’re feeling for a full crop. They haven't had greens. Everything is dead here for the winter.

Sad you can’t get the stuff you need, but the laughter was for the accent.Originally someone picked one of his pin feathers and it bled like a stick pig!!! Blood everywhere, and since then they have pecked at his head constantly. Poor old man
We cannot get blucote here it is banned as a carcinogen (ya don’t go there), so I don’t have anything but an aluminium spray that is shiny when coated on a wound - oh yes yummy for chickens to peck at I am sure!
I about busted gut laughing when the feedmill suggested this foolish ‘redcote’. I told them “oh ‘yis bye now’ (say that with a Newfoundlander accent), that’s going to go down well with the little savage beasts, I spray that on a bird all that will be left are the bones!”
Guess they don’t know chickens love the colour red!
So I don’t have anything to coat the beast with. Sheesh! If I weren’t so far a drive to the border I would make a run to the TSC down in Niagara and pick up a whole slew of stuff. Oh well….
Creatively...Thanks, but how am I supposed to mow my lawn with that contraption?![]()
Not a clue. Happens here too. They mostly seem to get better about clean bums, but there's always 1 who NEVER figures out how to keep it clean and always 1 who NEVER mucks it up. With 20 +/- a bit hens I have a decent sized pool for observation any given year. Twirp, Pear, and Cardhu have never had mucky butts from laying eggs. Silver, and Pippa always seemed to have a mucky butt. The rest....Their butts aren't clean? That's weird. Maybe @rural mouse may know something about that. That really is new to me.
You sound guilty to meI can tell you absolutely, unequivocally, that it wasn’t me laying it!
But I have my suspicions (suspects)![]()
