It seems like she clears it up, but it returns throughout the week. I've had other hens do the same thing, but it never came back. She keeps having it pop up randomly throughout the week so it's been bothering me.

I'll pass this info onto @CCsGarden because she acts as chicken doctor here and maker of desserts (that mostly come out but sometimes don't).
She has been doing it for months just not this bad.
We are keeping an eye on her.

I have noticed this! I am glad it is not just my chickens.

What's weird is that this only happened to our 2nd generation chickens: Foxy and Meimei. Foxy got poopy butt when she started laying (5 month old). She improved as she kept laying. She stopped laying when she was molting this winter and hence nice clean butt. But now her butt is a little poopy again since she came back online
Meimei has this condition MUCH WORSE :-( to the extend that she lost a patch of feathers below vent where poop likes to accumulate.

Edited to add: I doubt changing feed will help but I have no evidence.

Covid, flooding, and a busted pump in my main septic tank. Not how I wanted my last 2 weeks to go but all were blessings in disguise. Covid has seemingly reduced my appetite so I am dropping some weight, hope this stays true for another 50 pounds or so. We got over a foot of rain this week so our pond is completely full again. The sun is peaking out so I may let the chooks out a while this afternoon. During the testing of the new pump they discovered a big leak in the line between the pump and the field. Fixing this means our front yard won't get as mucked up as has been. Taking this coming week off for my birthday and to visit my buddy Mike before he begins chemo treatments.
I guess...good for you?????

I hope you are feeling better, and that fixing the leak DOESN'T mean tearing up the whole run between the pump and the field:fl:fl

my thoughts are with Mike - I hope he tolerates the treatments reasonably well, everything considered! And that they are effective in his case!:hugs:hugs:hugs

Oh, and Happy Birthday🎂🎂 Sweet 16 again???? Oh, no, my mistake YOU would want to be at least 21!;):D

🙄What wonderful B-Day presents - all of this🙄

A week behind again and not going to catch up today. Big clean out day fir my mother in laws house. Not how i might have chosen to spend a birthday, but so it goes!:idunnoView attachment 3734965
Happy Birthday🎉🎉

Maybe it is how you would like to spend your B-Day - as once it is done, you will be grateful that it IS done. I absolutely dread when I have to go through that - both my parents are pack-rats/it might be useful some day! (Unfortunately, that passed to me through my genes, too!)

I hope it goes well and relatively speedily - maybe treat yourself to a spa/massage/hot-tub the day after as both a reward and to physically recoup???❤️❤️

OMG - there is something about this picture - the back half of her shows so much texture that you feel like you could reach out and touch the curvacious fluff right in the picture!!
My DD and my mother have both been having some medical issues ( my little girl will be A ok, my mom I not so sure about)
:fl :fl My thoughts are with you and your daughter & Mom! :hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs

I am feeling much better thanks 😊

The leak required minimal digging, smaller than a cubic yard and was repaired in short order thankfully.

I am almost 21 for the third time. 🍻🤣

Thanks above else the good wishes for Mike. I've known him almost 30 years. Now that Jeff moved back east, Mike is my only friend and we don't live close enough to visit as often as we like.

Not feed as much as how much they drink and certain food extras affect the texture of poops. Like lots of water produces wetter, loose diarrhea-like poo which won’t roll off even oiled feathers that well. I think most see that during hot weather in their flocks. Mealworms make more cecal-like poops, maybe because of the fat content.
They get their dry feed all day, and water is available all day too. This is true all year round. I have a scant gallon in the water bowl; they never drink it dry. They probably drink 2.5-3 quarts, among 11 chickens.

Treats are their feed wetted into a mash (not soppy, just wet enough to scoop with a spoon), and the rest of this list is "sometimes" stuff: bits of greens from the kitchen, mealworms and BOSS (1x/week, max), a heel of bread (seldom). In the summer, I'll give them chilled melon for a cool wet snack.
