Twofer Morinth and Kasumi at the feeder. I found a fun game to play with the chickens yesterday. I was squatted down and they were running up, picked them up and tossed them about two feet away. They fluttered down and came running back to me for another go. Kasumi especially likes this game.

Why is she losing her beard?
She keeps it perpetually wet and dirty (which I think is primarily because she can’t completely close her beak- she’s not cross-beaked, but misaligned somehow), so her hatch mates very kindly groom the odd dreaded looking bits off of her. Last year she finished off winter with embarrassingly bare wattles for it.

Great twofers :)
Are you able to pick up either of the babies? I mean with them feeling compliant about it?
Currently they are growing in new feathers - what’s with everyone growing new feathers?! So they scream blue murder like their mamas, hahaha like mother like kid. But once I get hold of them they quiet down. I make sure to grab hold of them daily to get them used to being handled.

Mr P is wild as the wind and not used to being handled and it really stresses him. And he won’t accept treats from me, so it’s hard to get him used to being handled.

And actually Bert won’t eat from my hand either, oh his sister will - she scarfs back anything I hand her! I am not worried, if Bert stays I don’t want him to familiar with me, his job will be to protect the flock with his Dada.

That is fascinating. I'm glad her friends take care of her.
