Tried this yesterday for the Buckeyes with mixed results. Popcorn pecked & tasted it, then took the pill chunk from me to privately explore it and keep it away from the Spuds. Then she gulped it down. Next one went right in, no questions asked, yay!

Hazel tasted the PB coating and wouldn't try it again. She's more timid about food, isn't aggressive and the Spuds readily steal from her, so she needs more space with new things. The jury is out, but leaning No. I have to give her a situation where she's not fending off everybody. (She reaches in through the scrum to grab a bunch of sprouts when offered, so when she wants it she tries. She loves greens.)

Notably, Hazel does not like raw sunflower seeds either. She looks and when she sees it's sunflower seeds she walks away, probably disappointed. She initially took some early last year but after a few tries she's decided they are off the menu. She DOES like walnuts though, so walnut butter might be the thing for her! Or blueberries, could I stuff a pill piece into one and it wouldn't dissolve too much before she eats it? She won't take a big blueberry, only smaller ones. The Queen has particular tastes... 👑
If you can fit it in a blueberry that should be fine - it doesn't matter if it dissolves a bit - it is going to dissolve inside her anyway - just need to get it in her!

I can’t get this out of my head: I was asked by a 16 year old girl, “are chickens really birds?”
What do they teach students in public schools these days anyway? :old :barnie:th
You know, I feel sorry for people who are raised in the cities. I have never lived in the city or inside town either. I am thankful for it. I learned from a early age what and where food came from and appreciate the effort it takes to grow or raise it. I have had a middle aged man once ask me what do you call a rooster. I must have gave him a funny look because he knew girl chickens were called chickens, but what what was a rooster? Yes come to find out he lived in the city and had never been around farm animals. Then we have incidents like the other day. Rosie spread the word that Owly was laying green eggs. I go out to put the chickens up for the night and I have every kid in the neighborhood asking to see the green egg. Get one to show them and as they are all oohing and ahhing over it one of the girls who is 5 asks me is it a horse egg? :th . I catch one of the boys snickering. I tell her nope it is a chicken egg and why did she think it was a horse egg. Find out Mr. Funny guy was being a little snot and telling her horses laid eggs. I resist laughing at her, knock the wise guy up the side of the head and explain that he was pulling a prank on her and to never ever listen to anything he says again, ever.

Sick

And when I find out who gave me this I will make them do my chores.

Evil headache, funny throat, feel blah….

I woke up with the headache figured it was a migraine, that was 5am, I have a whole arsenal of pain meds and nothing got rid of the headache. Now my throat is acting up. No use denyin it. I am sick.

Nothing to do but suck it up and just keep on working I guess. And give the gift that keeps on giving….

Whining tax

Yesterday and they were screaming ‘make it go away!’

My in laws are over and asked if they could buy a chick or two to add to the flock. Then pay chicken support every other month or so. 😏
I told them that as long as dad and I get the new coop up that is fine. Just no silkies!
No silkies?!

Why?!

My silkies are my best layers when they aren’t broody. Of course then there are the Speckled Suspects, and Buff Orpington, etc etc 😊❤️
