@BY Bob How high off the ground is your coop? Is it difficult to reach under to clean it out? I assume it gets raked out annually, no? Previous coops I built were 3' off the ground for a nice height to have a roost underneath....but this next one that will be under the low end of the roof of the big run, I am thinking 18" or maybe 2'. The 2' is kind of pushing it...but I was thinking 18" would make it difficult to rake out (it will be 4' deep and, given thelarge shipping crate I got for free - 70" long...and the crate itself is 5' high, but I need to 'lift' the front of the top so it has both high ventilation and a sloped roof (that part of the main pen is 'to be' roofed...but the height is already pre-determined by the support posts in place in the run. Hubby didn't listen correctly to me and it is a good 10-12 on the low end than I wanted. :(
What is this ‘raking out’ you speak of? Sounds like a task invented by chickens to keep you busy!

Much like Davis' coat that he is trying to shed right now. Lord he is a hairy cat.

Instead of feathers everywhere, it is fur everywhere! If you get small clumps of it (like if you brush him - the brush full) the birds LOVE to use it in their nests! (song birds) Cleo is like that - but I don't think quite as bad fur-wise as Davis!!!

He is so darn cute, though - that you just have to 'look the other way' regarding the fur (that coats E.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g!!!)

Lovely pictures.
I can’t see an issue with Mozzarella’s eye. I hope it is OK.
I doubt that getting annoyed with us because we are boring you is likely to be the best way to motivate us to entertain you.
There are lots of us older folk on this thread. We are well used to being considered boring and strange.
I gave a ❤️ to your Caturday post. Don’t recall anything from you yesterday.
Everything is okay with Mozzarella's eye. I just thought that maybe the bright sky was bothering her eyes,
No, you don't annoy me. No one here annoys me. You're all special in your own way as said in my signature.
I can agree with the boring and strange part. Old Man is well over his 50s and I consider him boring and strange.
Grandma's turning 8 and I don't consider her boring and strange, regardless if 8 years of a chicken's life is 80 in human years... and that is quite old.

I suspect that it is just that, for some reason, they aren't being sent to you. You certainly have reactions - just look at the bottom of your actual posts - and see all the reactions you get!!‼️

Most would disagree with your thoughts about this site being boring and nothing happening - we are WAAAAYYY too chatty of a group.🤪

All that said - I thought you weren't supposed to be on here until your grades came back up? So, maybe it is a good thing you think we are boring - so you don't lurk and get in trouble!

BTW: I just love the 2 pics of Toni (🥰🥰🥰You do know I'm somewhat partial to BRs, right? - but they are good pics, even if I wasn't!!)
Grades are fine and I always have time for everything. I understand you folks are much older than me and have a lot to talk about. The thing is, I don't really like sharing about my personal life and I guess this is why I mostly post about chickens. I'll try to be on here more often, even if that is featherhead throwing a few corny jokes here and there.
I didn't know you were somewhat partial to BRs.
I don't find anyone here boring. As said in my signature, you are special in your own way. Therefore, you aren't boring. Like I said, I'll try to be on here more often. In fact, I'm close to 1,000 posts so time to rant about chickens.

:lau :lau :lau :lau :lau :lau If only!!!

Really - he doesn't rake out the poo once a year or so? I know it is mostly for dust bathing - but surely it must get some poo in there? There is always some poo in my chickens' dust bath areas - I use a cat litter scoop weekly on it -then top it up. Not a huge area like @BY Bob 's, and I have more chickens, but it is elevated and sometimes they roost on the edges ...which means poo goes right on in!🙄

Horses, and cattle are plains animals, they prefer cold dry or hot dry climates of grasslands, prairie or steppe landscapes. Your location is ideal for them.

Damp wet climates are bad for them and they don’t like it. Also hot humid they don’t like. So Ontario is not a good place for horses.

And Donkeys do not grow winter coats like horses do, not do they shed like a horse. They are more desert animals, I have seen donkeys here with missing ears from frostbite. People think they are tough but they are not winter hardy for cold at all. And wet is just horrible for them. Sort of like a silkie chicken they don’t shed water very well at all.

Polish also have a herd time with rain! Silly boy why were you put in that rain?! He had a bad hair day.

I swear Phyllis either has no idea its raining because of her pon pom hairdo or assumes it's one of those umbrella hats because rain does not phase her at all.

She is pretty unflappable in general, though - so maybe just her personality.

You know, it takes a lot of work to have that amount of poise and grace - I think she deserves and extra mealworm or sunflower seed or two! (don't mention that to Queen Aurora, though...just sneak her and Hattie a few on the sly!)

I am very annoyed that I barely get notifications here. No one quotes my posts, reacts to them. Nothing. Each time I visit this site, nothing. It's been happening since yesterday. My notifications are on. Looks like things get boring around here.
Toni would say the same thing.
And look at that.
Mugshot Monday!

I think I told you about the story of Toni and the camera shutter.
Okay, here's another one.

I'm feeling generous. Here's one of Mozzarella who is close to dosing off. Something is going on with that eye... I just know it.

That is why I asked if the bottom is in contact with the dirt. If so, the poo won't last a year, it will be broken down by worms and bacteria in the soil.
I may need to do some raking out myself because there are a couple of areas of concentrated night time poo which is building up because 4 of the Pentagonists have been all roosting in an area less than one square foot! But in the runs and the rest of the Palace I haven't got around to scooping or raking since the place was built!
