To me, it looks more like the toe nail broke and there is still the nail bed in place. If that's actually the case, the nail will grow out again. Otherwise, it looks like dirt. She has a touch of dark on all the visible toes.

I'm not certain it's necrotic. It just looks like she was digging in very black soil to me. Nails can get caught and pop off. I don't think that even slows down a chicken.

:goodpost:I agree with you. That's what I see.
Thank you both. I know relative to all the trauma on the site right now it is a minor issue, but I did feel bad when I saw it!
I feel like her other nails look like an OK length. I didn't get to the others or to beaks today.
There was a lot of lounging around in the sun while I was fixing the electric fence.

I hope you can get the homework done soon and get lots of rest.
Thanks, it’s not too hard. Just stuff on Newtons Three Laws of Science. And I need to do some Scientific Notation math stuff, but I find that surprisingly easy. It will be even easier since I have eight little two day old chicks right next to me screaming at the top of their lungs in my ears.

One woke me up at 4:30 this morning by screaming, and so I walked out of my room, down the hall, and checked on her. She was by the feeder instead of underneath the heating plate, so I just grabbed her and gently pushed her under there. Noisy little creatures. My bedroom was closed and I could hear her.

Everything's easier with chickens. Except making sure there's no poop anywhere and trying to eat food.

Thank you for the tax. And yea, it’s kinda stupid. He probably didn’t know what was happening and didn’t want strangers to have his number.
My mom and I were up in a big city recently and witnessed a fatal pedestrian hit. It was pretty awful. It was in front of a restaurant and there were a lot of people in the median. The workers were all looking out the windows at it. My mom has run out to the road, and if either of us had known CPR we would have tried to cross it to get to the median and see if we could help. We prayed by the roadside and went back in for a few minutes to sit down from shock. When the employees asked what happened and my mom mentioned that she'd have tried to cross if it weren't so dangerous and seemed too late, one employee said,"I know CPR, but we are in the lunch rush." My mom said, "What is more important, making your employer happy, or saving someone's life?" The person answered, "Saving someone's life." We were both just utterly floored. The thoughtlessness that people have sometimes is just nuts.

Wow. I can’t with people sometimes. I’m so sorry that you had to witness that.

Hi everyone, popping in for a quick update.

Grandma has pretty much stopped eating and drinking. The last meal she had was breakfast Monday morning. We have been struggling to get her meds down with applesauce. Mom called out the nurse this morning. They came, vitals are dropping and the decision was made from here out to stop all medicine except her pain meds and the valium to calm her nerves if we can get that down. She talked in her sleep all night long, with my uncle who passed back in November.
Keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers :hugs

Oh goodness! @featherhead007 I am so sorry. I missed your original post :( I hope he pulls through, he couldn’t be in better hands.
I promise to never leave him. I will feed him from my hand and find him drink while he can’t see it. I am so sorry this happened, but just like any predator, can happen to anyone at any moment. This next door predator has done enough for me to justify its termination
