Hmm. Well, like Abitail I also have chickens that opt for coop corners over nest boxes (12” squares) until they are “trained”. So it seems that just two walls and a distant roof suits them fine. But I would only make them longer communal nest box in theory- in reality, I feel that having dividers helps lower status hens have access to a box when otherwise the queen bees would bok them away.

I have found that the preferred place to lay eggs is at the TOP of the straw stack - and I do mean top.

Good morning all, I have not been feeling well this past week, my arthritis and migraines acting up with the weather. More snow this morning.

And regarding nest boxes: I have all different sizes, but the thing I have found is that they do not mind communal nests, they will share all the time, and they really like being up high. Enclosed or a nest dug into a straw bale, these are passing fancies, if one decides to nest somewhere then the others are likely follow..

And they're moving about! And Hyacinth came out with them yesterday....out the big door...and went around to the bird door to rejoin the littles.
