So sad, I lost Ryka last evening. She is just gone no sign of her anywhere.

I need to revamp my coop and run before adding or hatching anymore chicks though. Clearly they are not safe out there. The grow-ups have no problems but sadly the chicks definitely do.

Last week though there was a drone and that felt quite intrusive. Apparently I am not within my rights to knock it out of the sky.

I wanted to turn the hose on the one that buzzed my formerly private and peaceful backyard. I checked with the police and they said, "Don't do that" but there's no harm in saying "the drone's back! where's the high pressure jet hose??" If they're listening, they might fly it away. Anyway, I'm going to try it next chance I get.

The three I have left are allowed to roost and are considerably larger than the Orps were. Much faster growing breed. I think they will be okay honestly. The Orps wouldn’t go to roost yet especially Ryka with her lack sight in one eye.

I have put in a call for a quote on getting a new coop and run built. I have been wanting to do so for a while and this is my sign .

I opened up the run to let the little ones out to check out the yard. They all stayed in there instead. I noticed that they probably saw the several cats across the yard. I wasn’t going to leave them alone in the yard, until they grew up some more. But they were all happy staying in the run.

Gosh how annoying! Please let us know if that works - too funny if it does! There a very strict laws here with drones and model airplanes. Both require a license and in order to get the license one needs to take a course. They are both treated similar to having a persons private pilots license.

Have to say I have not seen a drone around here - yet!

These OEGB are not at all cold hardy, they really don’t like the wind either. I will need to do something for them this winter so they can warm up if need be.

The whole time we had the chicks inside all they wanted to do was jump thru the sliding door especially since there were chickens outside too.

But once we opened the door to let them explore they balked at the threshold and wouldn't go out. We enticed them with corn on a plate. Finally Keiko ventured out one day. The other two chicks sort of followed her onto the porch but kept running back inside.

By a week's time the 3 chicks were wandering all over the yard!

And so fast little Mika has been laying since May and now Keiko started clucking and squatting. They grow so fast! I can't call them chicks any more!
