Thirsty Thursday

Sharing a drink with the broody.

Pastel asked me to share this with you lot:
Quote:
"Oh! I got a new hen yesterday. She’s a lavender Orpington that I named Amethyst. She was supposed to be a meat rooster, and all of her brothers were getting shot at night, about five every night. Luckily I noticed that she was a hen (she is from where my mom works) and so I asked the owner if I could buy her, and he said I could just have her. The girls are already being pretty nice. Oh, and I am so done with Pastel. I feel bad for what I am going to do, but I have given him so many chances. He flew up and tried to spur me above my boots yesterday, but I was able to block it. I’m not going to kill him, but I am going to get rid of him. I was planning on putting him in with the roosters where Amethyst was, but then the owner started shooting them and I decided not to… I’m thinking maybe Facebook Marketplace or maybe I will go to a livestock auction. I am going to get another rooster from a close friend. She’s the one who gave me three eggs to hatch out, and those eggs (two were fertile) turned out to be Pastel and Splotch. He is an Easter Egger x Sumatra. And he is so beautiful. "

Sad chick update.

My little fluff, the disabled fluffy chick crashed and passed in the middle of the night. I knew the odds were stacked against her from the start due to her difficult hatch and problems. I had began to have hope though seeing how well she had managed to get around the previous 48 hours. The remaining 8 chicks seem to be doing well. The oldest, Adele is a week old today and the rest turn a week old by Saturday. If we can make it to Saturday, I will begin to breathe a bit easier. I had each one out snuggling this morning and earlier just put my hand in the brooder. Adele ended up climbing up my arm and settling in on my shoulder and falling asleep. It is the friendliest of the group and wants attention the most. You wait and see, I am going to get attached, and it will be a boy.

Oh I am sad to hear this, I was praying for the wee one. So very sorry, but you did everything you could. They are so fragile.

Don’t give up on Adele being a pullet ♥️ I have a bunch of sweetie pies that do that and they are pullets ♥️

Well I am looking forward to seeing some week old photos of all the babies if you get a chance this weekend - they will have grown so much I am sure.
