Our war with CanadaHere in the United States, we are only firing off excess ordinance that we had laying around and collecting dust.![]()
I found one. It must have been stuck to her. I found it in the run. I put it under her but it's been hours. This is sad. And I don’t understand where they went.
Opinionated isn’t she?!
I am certain these were dud eggs that have disappeared. She will not like it but you need to take a damp washcloth out and clean Lady F's breast feathers of the gunk. While you are there use a semi damp washcloth and clean the gunk the best you can off the remaining eggs. They do not have to be perfect, can even use fingernails and scrape the gunk off. I would also scrape out the straw in the box that is nasty and quickly replace with fresh bedding. You may need Mrs. BY Bob's help on this as Lady F will put up a fight. And Then There Were 8
2 more eggs gone. 1 shell still in the nest the other completely gone. Only 4 left for Lady Featherington and they are covered in yolk and straw.

We are down to 8 eggs.![]()
I suspect @BY Bob that if they were duds, they may have exploded - and then parts eaten and/or tossed from the nest by 'mom'. You did say there was yolk on her. Does LF smell really bad? If so, it was a rotten egg. If not, it could be that an egg cracked and that caused it to be pushed out of the nest (I've had many cases of my DC and of a Buff Orp - when broody - push eggs out of the nest. At first, I was upset...but upon candling, saw that those eggs were either duds, or had stopped developing. It always seems that they do this at one of the following times (at around 8-10 days, or at around the 14-16 day mark (or roughly a 'short' week later). I suspect that they can tell a dud, and when nearing lockdown, know if there is a 'bad egg' and 'dispose' of it so it doesn't spoil the nest. It is only an hypothesis - I do not by any means have definitive proof, and not all girls seem to do this. This is sad. And I don’t understand where they went.
Yes, we have hawks, vultures, and owls in this area. I get a roll 7’ wide and 100’ long for $55 at tractor supply. It last pretty well too.Wow, look at all these nettings for aerial predator?
If it’s been really hot there it will likely be ok, did you try to candle it?I found one. It must have been stuck to her. I found it in the run. I put it under her but it's been hours.
I am not taking her off the nest again. It's up to her now.
