I love that game of hop on mom. I'm very proud of Glynda. She is a shock to see as a broody. It seems Lady F is starting to get a little antsy. She is about ready to take the chicks out to greet the world. Glynda, I think she needs another day or so.
I keep expecting those Azur of mine to go broody, they sit and think about it I am sure 😳

I would say she would get on fine, my only concern would be lice, being a wild bird she likely has lice. Some oral ivermectin in some grain will fix that though.

She sure is a funny bird, I wonder if she sees her reflection in the window and thinks it’s another bird 😊
Good thought. And probably she will have moved on by the time I am back. But I really think she is talking to Bernie. The windows are at least part way open (protected by the hardware cloth shutters) so I don't think it is her reflection. She has been hanging around for a couple of weeks - but mainly quite far from the Chickens. This was the first time she seemed to have spotted chickens.

I must say I think Glynda looks like she is quite the natural broody. I love how she pushes them off but gently.
The whole thing is just totally adorable.

Randy Roo is spending the day in the coop. Twice now I've picked him up and he has settled very quickly. I am placing him on the roost and then stroking his impressive wattles and massaging his crop. I've also offered him corn out of my hand. He has not ate any yet, but he has picked the pieces up and threw them on the ground. That is a start. He and Bubba had a scuffle this morning. Again it was short and he gave way and hid in the coop which is why I locked him up. If nothing else I will gentle him a bit to make him easier to place if the 2 boys cannot come to a understanding. This morning, Bubba was the aggressor. He came off the roost ready to fight.

If I remember correctly Sydney had them out on the porch on day 3. They really need wings before that happens as the lip to get out is significant. There is a ramp to get back into the coop from the porch. I have walled off the exit from the porch as the ramp is another big thing and I must be there to make certain they can navigate their way back up.

I remain stunned that Glynda, a hen that would not always use a nest to lay an egg, wound up being such a great broody. Not to mention what a good mum she has been so far. She is always on the move. Just look at her sitting down and being patient with the little ones. It is stunning to observe.

This does feel like progress. In an odd way even the scuffle with Bubba seems like solid progress.
