French Marans of all varieties all have feathered legs. American strains of those varieties have clean legs. Not sure why

I personally like feathered legs, and it might give them an advantage in cold weather.

Isn’t he a brat?! It’s a good flight up there and navigating onto that narrow cord. I can tell they are going to be a lot of trouble!

And I don’t think I am imagining that they are very very clever, they are just always on the go, looking for bugs and whatnot. High energy = high maintenance.
