Beyond reason, I cooked a bbq chicken today. The church insisted that I take one of the frozen chickens they received from USDA
Food supply. So I cooked it and the chickens ate it.
They do that. It is not chicken to them. I have had mine run around with pieces of turkey from my turkey sandwiches before. Thankfully they didn't steal today's turkey sandwich.

Are you a good cook/baker w/ the eggs you collect? DH makes creative recipes w/ours - pastry shells are not his thing so he gets gluten-free ready-made pie shells to make spinach-mushroom-bacon quiche, or adds egg to a quick stir fry over pre-packaged cooked brown rice, or uses eggs in pre-mixed gluten-free pancake batter or microwaves on low a couple sunny-side-up Silkie eggs placed atop packaged gluten-free waffles. He does short-cut cooking for me in this heatwave while I recuperate from the broken arm.

Eggs from a decade ago when we had Breda, Ameraucana, and Silkie eggs before we realized we needed an egg skelter!

Beautiful eggs!

I do miss the days of a colored egg basket but the price we paid was an assortment of breeds that didn't blend well. W/a limit of 5 hens/no roos we've settled for all one breed - Silkies. Decent egg size for a larger bantam, pretty eye candy in the flock, assertive pecking order but not vicious, and busy foragers. We have a leftover old Dominique but she's good w/ the littles and she loves DH ~ so we gotta keep her.

The arm? Could be better. Just glad it wasn't a hip! Or a leg like my mom years ago!

Ok all caught up, hanks for the laugh RC, Raven is a vicious old bat, heaven help me if she ever went broody. I would just leave he with eggs and let her be. She is easily 10lbs and have a vicious bite, and she doesn’t let go! Like a shark she grabs and just saws and chews on you hand!
And that's the point. She knows she's supposed to hatch them and you're just interfering.

(Agathae made me say that.)
