Greetings yall! It's been a crazy summer. Full of ups and downs. Lost some good chickens but had a hen hatch 16 of 16 eggs! They're big now and will be rehomed soon. Goldie passed and was played to rest in our flower garden. I would have buried her near Big Boy but Lety took care of her before telling me. SOOKIE (Silkie) also passed and is in our flower garden. Lety knows I get emotional so she buried Silkie too before telling me. The pups are doing great! We are currently training a friend's dog. He was potty broke and don't mess with chickens but his manners are terrible. Rambo is a lab pup about nine months old. He's coming along but a little crazy as most adolescents are. My bronchitis is aggravating along with the arthritis in my hip but thankfully I have plenty of @Ponypoor mum's recipe. I will try to catch up and hopefully ever is doing fantastic.

Hi Greg - so sorry about Goldie Her name sake here is a bossy adolescent who is growing into a golden fluffy Buff Orp. When I call her over I think of your Goldie.

Yup, you guessed it. Calypso spotted that I had put Tassels in jail, and so the favored nesting box was available to occupy. Worse, Piglet provided an egg to sit on.
Calypso has moved back in to sit on Piglet's egg.
She will have to sit for a few days until Tassels gives up, and then I will get the body armor out again to remove her.
Geez. CHICKENS!!!!
If I had known how this would play out I would have designed the in-coop broody box/hospital with a mesh floor so I could use it as a broody jail. There is plenty of room for the dog-crate jail, but it is not the most stable of structures. I keep wondering if it would be safer if I hung it on a long chain from the rafters like I do the food and water. Hmmm.

Good morning everyone.

I feel like a person again and not a sleep deprived stressed zombie. After we got home I made it 30 minutes to make sure everyone was ok and fell asleep. I slept 16 hours. Rosie who passed out as soon as we walked in the door, she is still sound asleep.

Yesterday was a experience let me tell you. I personally am not a fan of the dentist, the sound of the drill gets to me even when no one is working on me. Being that she was a minor I could come back with her. I had to witness 75% of the procedure before I could make a exit and hide in the waiting room. I saw things, things I never needed to see.

Anyhow, we were sent down to UK's Emergency Dental Clinic. What I did not know until I got there is that is it part of their College of Dentistry. The final year students are the one's performing all procedures under the supervision of their teachers. It is a walk in based clinic who take a limited number of patients each day which was why we had to be there at the break of dawn.

There was a disagreement between 2 of the instructors. 1 thought pulling it and a implant would be the way to go. The other who I ended up agreeing with thought root canal and cap and I think crown would be the wiser choice. I have heard of people having issues with implants and discomfort. If she can keep the tooth, not be in pain and have it looking like it did before to me that is the best option and what she wanted. Root canal it was. It took 3 hours, but the nerve is gone and she has a temporary filling and partial cap to remove the sharp edge. I still have to take her to our dentist here to do the permanent filling and permanent cap. She can also then address the bottom chipped tooth which is not hurting her and put a small cap on it as well. The tooth beside the one that had the root canal is loose. They assured me it will tighten back up within a few weeks. They took extensive x-rays before they started. with the damage to the tooth and her gums and amount of pain they were concerned there was a missed hairline fracture to her jaw. Thankfully there was not, just cuts to her gums and a exposed angry nerve that was causing all the pain. Those x-rays showed another issue that I will have to take care of. Her wisdom teeth, yup they are going to have to be surgically removed. They are doing what mine did and growing sideways into her teeth. She has not complained about them so I am going to try to schedule that for Christmas break if I can. I've been there done that and it will take a week to recover. We have already missed enough school this year so Merry Christmas Rosie.

Coming home she was sore. But she is sore from the still busted lip and cut gums. Thankfully she can eat and drink properly again. She can also sleep and sleep soundly. No waking up crying and needing a new ice pack every hour. I've checked on her and have decided not to bother her this morning. If she sleeps 24 hours so be it. She has been exhausted and she needs this sleep.

My chickens they love me again. Breakfast for them was leftover steak fried rice. Raven though oh the sneaky girl. She took full advantage of my neglect and the demon is broody. No dear, no eggs for you even though you bit the crap out of me this morning. I hope I have caught her in time to break her easily. If she has been this way a few days I am in trouble with her. She is a hard nut to crack if she has sat for a few days.
