Welp, the polish chick is walking around just fine, morinth and the other 6 have decided to make a bath puddle!


I'll have to go check under the apron when they are done. I'm tempted to buy some dig-proof fence pieces and line the run with them so they can't dig out past the edges.

For over 25 yrs we still have property in Northern Calif in Modoc County ~ 75% is nat'l?/state? forest so limited population. We once had plans to have poultry & livestock and live the neighborly life. We're over 6000 ft level but when we saw the burned out forests on the lower levels we decided not to live there. Calif forest fires have a reputation of destroying life & property! Although it would've been fun living in a county that once tried to vote Modoc County and lower sections of Oregon to break away and become the new state of Jefferson State. However on Election Day voting Dec 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor bombing canceled elections and never got put on the ballot again!

I don't think you can MIND your own business and still breathe !!! Besides, DH would miss your humor if you stopped meddling ! Suggest away and I'll probably have a retort as well !

DH uses the open yard space to roll out the BBQ grill plus we keep the city waste bins inside the yard not too far from the porch & chained together cuz our neighbors and us have had our county trash bins stolen a few times from our side yards or from next to our garage walls! The local riff-raff steal anything loose or not chained down!

And we DO have a Pomegranate tree in the front yard and that's messy enough! It's to the right of the trash bins near the block wall in the photo and it's taller than the block wall now.

Trees are the pits messing up a yard so if it doesn't grow food to eat we don't bother w/ any trees. Besides, we live above the 210 Fwy & the decades-old Fwy landscape trees mess up our neighborhood yards w/ tons of gigantic dried-up Autumn maple leaves ~ ugh!

On the porch we have to keep tools locked up in a large heavy bench box. And we put a faucet lock on our frontyard spigot to keep the homeless from using water cuz they don't turn it off after!

The front yard weeds before laying down paver stones. Today paver stones & our 3 trash bins are in the same spot! The chickens loved scouting for cut worms!

I didn't know the fires were mainly in the mountains. Is that just because of that is where the forests are? Or is there more to it than that?

Fires can be anywhere. I knew of an apartment building complex on 10 acres of property, in the middle of the city of Anaheim California that burned everything down to the ground. Everything in the mountain town of Paradise California was destroyed by fire
Even due to stupidity of a few teenagers, our beautiful public library burned down, killing two firefighters.

Partly the forests, partly the terrain is difficult to get into.

Also fires like to travel ‘upwards’ - there was an awesome Nature of Rhings documentary on fire - causes and what we know about fire behaviour.
