I have been wanting to do this for some time now. I knew once I started doing this there would be no going back. So I am now diving in and I hope you all enjoy coming along for the ride.

First of all let me tell you how we view our flock as that will help you to understand why we treat them like we do.

Our birds are our pets and we treat them as such. We do not care if someone is not laying eggs. They are welcome to stay at Fluffy Butt Acres until they pass naturally. (Now don't go telling them that! I would hate for word to get out) We do thoroughly enjoy the fresh eggs.

I plan to tell stories from the past as well as from today. I hope you all enjoy and will share stories of your flocks as well.
Awesome named farm.

It is always nerve wrecking introducing birds I have raised myself. Most times though my biggest worry is teaching them about the horses. For the last 2 years even if I brooded them myself I could always count on Branch stepping up and watching over them. I also knew Bubba would be good with them, he would not go out of his way to interact with them, but never tried to hurt them and would protect them. I do not have that now. I have a young game rooster who is really just learning the ropes. I believe he learned some things from his time with Bubba and some of the bossier hens. He definitely has grown up in the few weeks he has been around and I see promise in him. That does not change the fact that he is a game rooster, he is young and I really do not know if in his past he was around chicks. Now lets add on that I for sure have 1 cockerel in the group, who this morning proved he is dumb when it comes to older roosters. Julio is going to need to learn what he did this morning was bad manners. Julio is also very small, and Randy could really hurt him right now. The chicks want out and about, I am going to give them more time soon. The girls, I will watch and let them intermingle while I am out with them. Randy, I am not ready to trust Randy with any of them yet and I want controlled meetings. If they head to him so will I so I can intervene if need be.
They are roosters. They will act like roosters. You cannot stop them from being roosters!!
I just had a long talk with my Wyandottey Rudy. I told him that he needs to man up and take charge of this situation. Just crowing doesn’t do it. There’s more to being a good rooster than just a voice!! (Our government could use a lesson on this!) I think he might be a good rooster soon enough.

Now if only I remember to prune my tree this coming year 😳 I forgot to this past season so they are all wild!

Looks like one of my pullets is laying - I have no idea who laid that one really dark olive green egg upper right corner. Unusual colour.

That avocado egg is a color a lot of breeders strive for. The inside shell will be a blue tint. Gorgeous!

I feel the same way with water Mellon. Even in the summer it’s expensive here. Maybe I’ll grow some next year.

Meanwhile the four peaches I was able to salvage were a big hit with the gang.
If you do plant watermelon lift the flowers and emerging fruit off the ground. Less likely for insects or rats to discover the fruit before they destroy it. Mistake I made not elevating the long long long trail of vines!
