It has rained now for 48 hours. I should not complain, this week we were listed in level 1 drought. I am going to complain though as it is also supposed to rain pretty much nonstop for the next week. This hinders my chicken time, especially with the littles. I just gutted the coop as well and loaded it with new sawdust Friday. I will be soaked but I do need to go out tomorrow and try to save what I can of the currently soaked coop and top it off with some dry bedding. I think I will strip off the soaked part and bed heavily with loose hay. It will give the littles something to dig in and pass the time.

Tried to stay up to see if the Northern Lights were visible tonight. Not at this time....and Pepé decided to visit....at least his cologne preceded him. I declined a closer meeting at took it getting told to go to bed...which I am.

Tax
Jungle removal on progress, winter hawk shelter works also in progress....using the clay pots

Bert is such a cutie pie ~ Satin Silkies can be so gorgeous ~ the laced Satins too ~ but we went w/traditional Silkies for our last chickens since we've always had them in the backyard flocks & are accustomed to them. Also we figured it's cooler for Silkies in our extreme summer heatwaves to have their looser feathering. While standard chickens stand around in the heat panting w/ their wings spread out, our Silkies will be busy digging & foraging & dustbathing! Temps have to go over 100 before we see a panting Silkie. Busy little buggers!

NO WATTLES but 2 fluffy butts

Canada fascinated me for years. I wanted to vacation thru British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Banff Park, but never developed an interest in the eastern provinces. My inlaws took my DS on a Princess cruise 50 yrs ago when he was 8 yrs old & he saw Vancouver but I don't think the ship docked again until Alaska. It's nice that the cruises had supervised outings/activities for the kids onboard and on land. Inlaws took cruises for 10 yrs & my DS was the only grandkid they ever took. He was their shining namesake 😊
Bert is actually a silkie x polish cross! He got the hairy legs from his mama Fluffy 😊

Betty (also silkie x polish) got her curly locks from her mama Curly (yep I am original with names).

It’s a nice cross and if I could guarantee pullets would do it again.

And if you cross Betty back to her Daddy Mr. P you get George.

This little rascal is 1/4 silkie and 3/4 polish. He did not inherit the curly feathers from his momma or grandma. He did not inherit the feathered legs, his earlobes are not going to be blue. He is going to have his daddy's comb. His leg color, can't blame that on the silkies. I have saw pure polish with that color. If he has any silkie traits showing it is going to be his size. He is small and going to remain small. I do not see him getting as big as his half brother Bert. If I wanted I believe when he is finished growing he will look just like a bantam polish. I will not call him that, he is what he is, a polkie who forgot he is part silkie.

Gosh he’s growing up to be adorable! I do love that cross, even ‘Martina/Floyd’ was gorgeous.
