Can’t sleep :idunno Dogs barking at a distance. My chamomile tea ain’t cutting it.
Full cup of tea ain't good at night ~ Too many wakeups for the bathroom thru the night for me! I go to sleep to a radio that softly blocks out other interruptive noises. Otherwise every barking dog, meowing mating cats, honking horn, chattering mockingbird, etc will keep me awake or jolt me out of sleep!

I only take a probiotic in the evening around 6 or 7 p.m. w/ no more liquids afterwards to prevent nighttime bathroom interruptions.

I believe a time-release melatonin supplement that gently releases into the body all thru the night is good but so far the radio works for this old lass!

Good advice, thanks

Hey all. I'm never catching up.

Meanie is now regularly laying on the darn floor. As head hen she's failing miserably in teaching the Red Squad good laying manners. I added some depth to their boxes today, maybe that'll help. Honestly, 4 boxes for 3 laying hens and Eenie is the only one polite enough to use one.

Sheba has a saddle, finally. The simplest one I could find that covers her wings. Hopefully having a potholder on her back will keep her from getting plucked!

Eenie has bumblefoot. :( It's mild...but clearly there. None of my hens really let you catch them. So treating this will be a challenge. I will have to so some research on this.

Prayers to all having a rough time. I miss my chicken tenders of FBA. Life has just been so busy...again!
Yep I have most of my brats laying on the hay and straw piles now. Sheesh!

But whatever makes them happy I guess, but ewwww stepping on an egg sucks!

Sure hope your wee one with the saddle moults soon, and becomes once again glorious! Meanwhile my hen house looks like a pillow fight happened in there overnight I have so many moulting!!!

Gorgeous views! Cute old fire truck. We see a lot of green fire fighter trucks around here whenever the mountains behind us are ablaze. This summer was a cooler year w/o any fires so no green trucks.

Awwww such a lovely wee lady, so sweet looking!

None of mine can be picked up during the day. But at night you can take them off the roost with minimal fuss.
Get a headlamp with a red light setting.
Best chicken equipment I ever got.
Meanwhile I am regularly inundated with spoiled rotten chooks who think I am their slave to carry them around, feed them treats and hop on for a higher vantage point.

Take my 5 elderly ladies, they now wait for me to lower them to the floor in the morning, and now I have 3 otjers who are waiting for the same treatment! What am I a slave to a chicken?

Penelope & Blanche
Both of whom get the special elevator service in the morning.

Can the boxes be blocked off?
Well she is spending most of her time in a dog crate broody jail. Every three days I take her out and walk with her to a far away place and set her down.
If I am lucky she eats and bathes on her way back. Sometimes she just goes straight to the nest.
Then I go pull her off the nest and lock her back in jail.
At the timing of that video she had not had access to the nest boxes for three days.
So I am no sure what blocking the nest boxes would do other than frustrate her sisters.
