Ooooo the evil white stuff! Make sure your Dad drives safe - have a lovely Thanksgiving.Well everyone. I'm off to Connecticut. I'm currently on the roads and guess what? Pony, you'll want to see this. SNOW! Well, as of now, we are in Connecticut but here are photos from earlier. Snow in the upper part of PA and it dwindled down as we headed to NY. I will say it has been raining all day. The rain followed us from PA to here.

Bittersweet memories. Become sweeter as time goes onHappy Thanksgiving.
We are heading to the coast.
Thanksgiving was my moms favorite holiday, growing up we each picked something to make for our family feast day. There were some staples (its not Thanksgiving without mashed potatoes) but also often something new. I miss those family feasts, and my mother. Last year a Thanksgiving with everyone was my mother-in-laws last wish. It was a great meal and a wonderful gift of joyful memories, she passed less than 2 weeks later. Today we are gathering on the coast for some winter beach combing and hopefully a good if not traditional meal. Feeling a bit emotional today.
My chickens are thrilled to have a dry if chilly day and are industriously digging, scratching and dashing all over the front yard.View attachment 3997719
I bet she will be a wonderful mama and allow you to ‘babysit’ oftenI have no earthly clue how many eggs she is on. I did not even know they were fertile till last night. Randy has been busy with all the girls, I never once saw him even look in Poppets direction. She has to be sitting on her own eggs though. They cannot be Georges because he was only 4 1/2 months when she went broody. He still has not figured out that he is a boy and what he is supposed to do with the girls. When she decided to go broody only she and Judy were laying and Judy lays in the porch box. I like the name suggestions, keep them coming. Word of warning to everyone on here. I am not keeping any of them. I do not desire a silkie x game cross in my flock. I will love them, care for them to the extent Poppet allows. When she is done with them, however long it takes I will list them. When she comes off the nest with them in a few days we will see just how much of a terror a momma Poppet is. Chiquita was fierce as a momma but allowed me to handle them after a few days and many pecks.
Can you get feed in there? Tho I guess better to have her come on out hungry.I just went out and checked on Poppet. To even see her I pretty much have to lay flat under the ground and reach under to shine the light on her. I believe she may have one chick out. I never saw it but I heard it. The cheeps were a little louder then last night. While the light was shining on her Poppet did pick at something in front of her and make the "come eat" call. It never emerged but I believe there was something making her feathers move at the base of her chest. I may wait again until it is after dark to go back out. It was so much easier last night to hear both her and the peeping when everyone was asleep. A few minutes ago I had a rooster crowing, hens complaining and the teenagers sounding off like geese.
If the Poppet experiment proves a success, and she is as I suspect a pullet producer. I really need to get you some Poppet eggs this year or next. I'm still saddened that between me and you there is no Marty chicks running around. Wee Miss Marty, I guess we just have to be happy to have you.I bet she will be a wonderful mama and allow you to ‘babysit’ often
Georgie continues to be broody, but she still demands her morning cuddle by pecking at my leg until I crouch down for her to hop down n my lap. Then she settles in - I have to tell her sorry girlie I need to go to work!
I think she will be a lovely mama also, maybe in a couple years I will let her raise some day olds - I’ll give her a couple of Brahma![]()
I could toss some food in her direction and get it close. I do not want to. Right now none of the other chickens have tried to get to her. The last thing I need is hungry nosy hens bothering her at the moment. I'm sure she would want to fight and that could lead to crushed eggs and squished chicks with the lack of room. Can you get feed in there? Tho I guess better to have her come on out hungry.
