What’s up with Marty?

I don’t know if she is broody or having trouble laying an egg. That hen worries me all the time.

Tonight she was in a nest box, I removed her and brought her into HH-B with Mr P. Next thing I hear crashing about, I go look and there is Marty all puffed up going bok bok bok waddling to the Summer House, Mr P hot on her heals.

She hopped into the nest box in the summer house that Georgie was in and she settled in there. No way was she staying in the HH-B!

Meanwhile Georgie is happy being in any nest box I gave her some food, and water. And she hopped up on my lap for a snuggle - gosh she is a sweetie. But I hope she gets over this broody stuff soon she weighs next to nothing

Oh and Mr P stayed in the Summer House with Marty. Those two are an item for sure.

True love.

Good for her. Snacks and naps are good for us older ladies!

Hattie is really enjoying the leftover pie crust that Mrs BY Bob doesn't finish. I think it might be her new favorite food.

It was snowing today but 32F so I opened the pens and the little ones didn't want out, so shut the pens and opened the coop. The big ones didn't want out either. Guess 40 mph winds blowing snow is a bit much. Two hours later, DH tells me some chickens made it to the house, so come help. I bundled up and we hauled chickens to the coop, seven of them. I don't know how they made it up here in the first place but got snowbound and couldn't go back.

Aurora got stranded once by flying into the deep snow. She couldn't make it all the way back to the coop. I had to rescue her and carry her back.

I only have four old ones; a rooster and three hens, all between 4-7. They are all I have left of the "pet quality." Fern's missing in this pic (a partridge), and one of the black ones has since passed. Guess I should get an updated picture of the remaining four, but it's more fun taking pictures of the prettier ones.

King - the rooster, is definitely the ruler around here and keeps the younger roos in their place. He lost a lot of feathers off of his head, kind of like old men do.

Well seems she laid a soft egg, I dragged her off the nest cleaned her up and put her and Mr P in HH-B with the others.

Aurora got stranded once by flying into the deep snow. She couldn't make it all the way back to the coop. I had to rescue her and carry her back.

Bernie continues to struggle - I don’t know if it is molt or something more serious. But I have discovered that she transforms into a different hen when turkey scraps are offered.
To describe it as a favorite food is a significant under statement.
One minute she looks like she is not far from death. Then suddenly she is a raging carnivore tearing into her cousin’s carcass like a mad thing!
