He's being such a sweetheart!
He really is. He will be 6 months old in just over a week. I could not be happier with him or his behavior to date. He is going to be a amazing rooster one day. When I am not outside he is stuck like glue to his silkie harem. Mrs. E. has also joined the silkie brigade. I also feel he is going to be great with chicks. Since Turkey hatched George has kept his crew very close to the coop. He desperately wants to meet Poppet and Turkey. Not yet Georgie. Poppet is still very much anti-chicken visitors. I will see how he does when Turkey is closer to 3 weeks old and is bigger and stronger.

Ok, all you smart and experienced chickeneers. I have something odd going on. Still have birds moulting (they do it in rotations). However, 2 of this year's pullets have joined in: Hyacinth and Rose are both moulting: rumpled feathers, neck/head/tail feathers clearly have new feathers coming. Anyone have experience with this?

I'm having the exact same problem. I don't know what's going on.

How old are they exactly? For what it is worth, George and the silkies are molting yet again. George has new pin feathers in his neck and I can feel pins underneath all the silkie fluff. They will be 6 months old in just over a weeks time. It is one of their many juvenile molts.

My hands are numb, and cut up a bit from the rat wire, but the coop is finally winterized fully. The only area not covered with a tarp is the side with the door. It faces the hill so it is naturally blocked from the wind. I do have the tarp up so that if I have to, I have enough room to cover that part as well and temporarily tie it up if needed. It is 27 right now, but crazy wind blowing in all directions that makes it feel colder. I used a heavy duty tarp so unfortunately for Poppet and Turkey I blocked a lot of the day light. They do not care, with the wind gone they are out and about digging away. The rest of the flock are being smart. Napping away in the stalls and aisleway.

Dakota, my leg is asleep. Please get off so I can stretch it out a bit, please? image.jpg
