It was very windy here and there was just a thin layer of snow that melted not even close to the afternoon.

No, no, no. A recipe for disaster.
Well, it's not too late to bring out the sweaters...

To be serious, I have a couple who can use something to help keep them warm! Might get mum to sew a few hen saddles for them.

Yup….

Hens lay eggs when they are healthy enough to do so, not because they are happy…. 😣
As much as I applaud Organic Meadows how they raise their hens, I still don't like the hybrid cross-breeds used to be exhausted prolific egg layers. But at least Meadows environment is better than those poor caged pale-comb/bare-feathered Leghorns! I wanted to weep.

I just narrowly escaped a disaster with Turkey. She got tangled up in Poppets feet feathers. I got her loose, she seems ok and is up drinking and eating great. She could not have been stuck long, maybe less then a minute. I assume Poppet was sitting down with Turkey under her and Turkey got stuck when she heard me round the house with a snack.

Turkey is a week old today. Just when I thought I could relax something happens.
Can't rest for a minute w/something so tiny. Turkey also runs under Poppet in a way one wonders how any chicks don't get trampled. So glad you caught it.

Our Silkie Violet once got her legs hobbled in some string outside (where did it come from?) & barely could move her legs hobbling in her movement. The string wasn't visible in her foot feathers but her hobble gave it away. If we had been gone all day I shudder to think what condition she'd be in. We go out many times a day to check on & account for every bird simply cuz we can. While working we didn't think it safe to leave hens alone for 10-12 hours every day. So many things can happen. So we waited till retirement to commit to chickeneering.
