Oh there is a Randy update I have been meaning to post but have forgotten to.

As you all are aware from the moment he decided to adopt my flock he has chosen to sleep in Momma Hens tree. I am pleased to report that finally for the last 2 weeks Randy has abandoned the tree. He now Roosts on the big roost right beside Raven. He has gotten very comfortable with me walking around and under him on the roost and me talking to him while he is up on it. If the need arose I do think I could take him off the roost successfully now. I still have not attempted it. I do not want to scare him back to the tree. With winter now here and freezing temps I do not want him unprotected from the elements. I am making progress with him. Slow painful progress, but progress none-the-less. Last night Raven and Siri decided to have a go at each other on the roost. Poor Randy was caught in the middle and he was knocked down. He trusted me enough to get close. I did not attempt to pick him up and put him on the roost, I could tell he was not ready for that and ready to bolt towards the hill. Instead I used my head lamp and shined a light onto the top of Russ's stall board. He is smart and used it to fly up to it. I then shone the light onto his spot on the roost and he was back up in a instant. He also gave a very well deserving peck to Raven who was in a mood. He also pecked at Siri until she moved about a foot away from them which seemed to make Raven happy.

Good boy Randy. We will become friends eventually.

He is so gorgeous on top of being a good roo. Any guess to his height or weight?

Shorley is a nice looking roo ~ I hope someone needs him. Rosario is handsome but big boy Shorley captures attention on sheer size alone ~ whats his breed?
He is one of those Midnight Majesty Marans. Hoovers’ hybrid cross with a Black Copper Marans rooster on Barred Rock hens. He was supposed to be a she, but when ‘she’ started sporting spots I just knew it was a cockerel, barring is sex-linked, Roos will be barred, hens not. 😢😢😢😢😢

The Rockettes seem to like staying in the rafters of the coop. I tried taking them down, but they went right back up again. I put their food and water up in the rafters so they can eat and drink something. Wow they were hungry and thirsty!
Any chance of locking the boys up for a few hrs each day?

Oh yeah Michigan winters are usually pretty snowy. Last year was oddly warm, but it looks like it's gone back to the normal cycle of deep snow, a week of slight thaw, then back to snow. We'll have to see how it plays out to be sure.
Snow thaws sounds like it can turn to slippery ice. Do you wear cleat footwear to avoid slippery ice spots? Ever since my fall breaking my arm I'm paranoid about hazards ~ & we don't even deal w/ snow!

Our closest snow are the mtns behind us. Pretty in the winter but scary fires in the summer.

I have property in Apple Valley
Five acres. I’m just sitting on that property until the prices increase
Beautiful Apple Valley is where Roy Rogers & Dale Evans retired, died, & were buried. Nearby in Victorville was where the Roy Rogers Museum was located before family in 2003 relocated it to Branson, MO, where the museum failed & contents auctioned off. They should have kept it in Victorville on famous Route 66 where there's a lot more tourist traffic. As a kid in the 1950's it was a wholesome kids' TV cowboy show.

Those are stunning pictures! My sons and I lived in Lakewood, Colorado for two years and I so miss seeing mountains every day. The winter there is awesome too. I remember one winter never putting my winter coat on. We would get a foot or two of snow dumped on, then by noon it was melting.
