I can avoid diving in myself as I'm not breeding cats. Any info those knowledgeable on it care to share, I will enjoy and learn from. Thank you @RoyalChick for sharing the marmalade info. As he's bigger than Castor, I'd been leaning that way. The both of them are growly with each other, but seem to be willing to avoid the physical brawls...an improvement from when he first turned up.View attachment 4021444he blends rather well here...I suppose something to call him would be a good idea until we find out what his owners (if any) call him.
That is a great picture!
I only found him by following Castor’s gaze.

Not a 100% guarantee as it is genetically possible for a marmalade cat to be female, but the vast majority are male.
Calico cats are all female.
The gene for ginger fur is on the X-chromosome. Males have only one and if it has the marmalade gene then they are that color all over. Females need two copies to be marmalade all over as opposed to black and marmalade (calico or tortoiseshell).
White is a whole different genetic story.
On the folks farm, my mom would make comments about males carrying their tails low when they walked & their hips lowered. Of course she also identified Calicos as females.

Yesterday's chook adventures. The few out kept changing, but none ventured farther.snow is deeper than they're willing to go. Temps weren't terrible with the wind dying.

and for @featherhead007 yes Cheetah crowed on 1 foot...and promptly used that as 1st step to run off when completed.

Then why does Castor carry it high when walking around with me?
Neutered?

I have only had 2 male cats but I can’t remember how they carried their tails.

I did know that calico is a female dominated trait (males rarely are calico), and tortoiseshell and s a female only colour ♥️
