Spaniels are so-o-o adorable... kids & puppies together❣️ Somehow I thought it would be chicks though 🤣

We found puppy training classes very useful even if just for the simple forms of walk, sit, stay ~ it's amazing how easy to train puppies at the start. We never realized all the mistakes we made when our DD got her 1st puppy. Nowadays 40 yrs later DD makes sure she goes to dog training w/ each new dog she adopts.
I need to train my dogwood! :D IMG_5156.jpeg

I told her when we decide who we're keeping from the current chicks we'll discuss hatching some Polish. We at least need to rebuild the run so we can have them all out in the main complex...I would be okay brooding polish in the little "chicken church" coop

Since some of your coop/run collapsed from snow this winter will it repair enough to get thru next winter? I have been overwhelmed at how many BYCers contend snowstorms!

Agreed - unless a dog is 100% of the time with other animals and watched all the time they will not be trustworthy with other animals. This is why farm dogs are raised with the animals they work with (cattle dogs, sheep herding dogs…). Farmers here keep their farm dogs in the barns with their livestock - same as sheep herding dogs, or LPD.

Of course these days one rarely sees livestock dogs around here, most farmers have sold off their livestock and just grow crops. But I remember well dogs coming to greet me whenever I would visit farms, I also remember seeing flocks of chickens everywhere. Most farmers had a flock of chickens, the dogs never seemed to bother those chickens.

What’s changed? Is this progress? Our kids are missing out on a whole wonderful world of playing these days I feel. Used to be farms had dogs and kids and chickens all running amok 🥰
I do not trust dogs, nor will I ever.

We had one incident where someone brought a dog to a dinner party Mrs BY Bob was throwing poolside. They left their dog off the leash. In a flash Elphie was running through my legs and into the house and Daisy, the greatest hen ever, was cornered under the deck. I had to get the hose and soak the dog to get it to leave Daisy alone. The party was ruined and my chickens were beyond stressed.

Nope. No dogs running free with my chickens out of the complex. Tragedy can happen too quickly.
