I purposely petted each of the chooks (except for the game fowl fam) to see if everyone is dry. They seem okay for tonight and I counted them three times so I don’t miss anyone. I also put all the feed in sealed buckets to keep moisture out.

Tax for talking about the weather earlier.

The chicks in their new home. They have lots of space, but understandably are staying close to the heat until they are older. Hard to get a picture of them in there.

Cooper wanted to know why I was on the outside of the fence looking in at everyone and strutted over to check me out.

And his way of saying hello I think.

I think that is his way of saying 'I'm the man - come on over 'cause I rule'. as he gives the girls a wink. ;)

Not sure this would ever have happened again, but better safe than sorry. First time was his first day here, and I can only imagine he left to look for his home. 😢 Not finding it, he decided to come back.

The other time it happened is when we moved him to the bachelor pad because the two roosters were fighting. Cooper was not fertilizing the eggs, so we decided to go with Ralphie in the main run. Instead of jumping back into that run with the hens, he hopped the wrong fence and was in the forest again.

He seems settled now and hangs out at the fence with the girls. Ralphie and he do not fence fight anymore, so when spring comes we may try to integrate him again. Would love to have them both in the main run, but I also don't want any injured roosters. I have had two roosters in the run together, so I know it can work if the boys can get along.
I love 🩷 roo stories since we aren't zoned for them :(

That is some great chicken parenting!! And you seem to know all the meds to have on hand. I have a lot of meds, but if something goes wrong, I'm on the emergencies thread asking for help before I use any of them. Nice that you are so proficient at this.
Noooo I am not proficient at all. I try to learn but have trouble retaining very much without repeated exposure, but in this case have been dealing with this respiratory issue for a couple of years. I feel very new to chickeneering at four-five years. I am however by necessity an internet and BYC search nerd, and I do ask for help. FBA more than anywhere - Bob has been very generous and so have others here. Thankfully too the record of posts on BYC is very big and covers many topics.
