Noooo I am not proficient at all. I try to learn but have trouble retaining very much without repeated exposure, but in this case have been dealing with this respiratory issue for a couple of years. I feel very new to chickeneering at four-five years. I am however by necessity an internet and BYC search nerd, and I do ask for help. FBA more than anywhere - Bob has been very generous and so have others here. Thankfully too the record of posts on BYC is very big and covers many topics.

“If it’s dry tomorrow” it’s been raining here non stop all night long and today we have thunder and lightning followed closely by bb sized hail.
Looked pretty, but cold okay Lord, thank you for the rain, but can you stop it for a while.
The ark isn’t built yet.

You could have fooled me, but I get it. When we have a sick hen, we learn a lot real fast! BYC is one of the best resources on the internet!!! Love this place!!! And I'm happy to hear folks on this thread have been helpful!

Well of course you can use those newfangled waterers on your silkies, because they are not real chickens. My birds will bite the plastic off the nipple waterers. I almost lose my fingers some days!

Seriously, we've had our Brite Taps/insulated Rubbermaid waterers for several years & we've had several Leghorn, Dominique, Breda, Marans, & Ameraucana breeds besides our current Silkie tribe using these jugs. Our 2-gallon Rubbermaid coolers are 10 yrs old & the Brite Tap attachments last forever & easy to insert & clean. The added bonus of these Rubbermaids is that they are heavy w/just one gallon of fresh water in them & won't tip & because of the handle can be hung. Of course the coolers can hold up to 2-gallons of water but 1-gallon is more than enough to not tip over. During heatwaves the ice in the coolers keep fresh cool water for the birds all day.

Our older style Brite Tap nipple waterer & 2-gal Rubbermaids from 10 yrs ago are still in great shape. We moved these jugs all around the yard during remodeling. The Silkies would stand under the nipples to dribble water onto their chests to cool themselves on hot days. We have 2 of these jugs just in case one leaks (has never happened so far) so there is still another jug available w/ water. Neither chickens or wild birds can poop in this water source.

Not sure about your freezing temps but in our 100-115 degree heatwaves the ice keeps cold all day in the Rubbermaid.

Our temperatures kept changing 0c -1c then 1c going up by the hour, at 12, ,We are supposed to have an hour of rain. The rest of our day should be sun a cloud mixed

So should I wear a mac? a bikini or a thick coat and long John's?

-5c right now then +12C in the afternoon… but it will be clear woohoo!

The chooks and ponies are loving it and so am I!

These two didn’t want to go to bed, they wanted to watch the sun set last night
