This is the last time I will be on here I swear. It will be a while until I'm on here, but hopefully @notabitail can kindly post updates for me occasionally. I believe I have said most of what has happened in my life since I left in early June, but I will say it all chronologically regardless. I probably won't be on here until I am a legal adult, but I promise that as soon as I am, I'll be on here so often that you will wish I'm gone again.
June- Nyx the polish broke her neck and passed away. Willow went broody and I bought her seven SLW pullets (which started the theme of not naming every one of my birds.)
July- We moved my grandfather up here so that we can visit him more often. I rescued a Lavender Orphington (Amethyst) from being killed, and Pastel was re-homed, only to be killed a week later. Pippa, the pony I rode for 6-ish years passed away due to colic.
August- School started...
September- I don't recall anything happening.
October- Dad had a stroke. He's okay but you can tell that he's different due to the stroke. He has a lot less patience than before, and that's saying something (yay for me). I went to Indianapolis for FFA National Convention with two of my friends and my age teacher. I had a ton of fun, and it was the first time I went somewhere without my parents.
November- I pre-ordered eight chicks from Meyer's Hatchery. Three Cream Legbars, three Black Copper Marans, and two Easter Eggers. My grandpa passed away.
December- I found out the the owners of the barn where we board Auggie are selling the barn and moving. My parents let me decide what we do with Auggie. I thought about it for almost a week and decided it would be best to sell him back to the owners of the barn so that they can take him with them when they move. I'm still able to ride him while he's here and they told me to visit their new place in north GA often so I can see him. Since Dad can't work anymore, and Auggie is older and very overweight (he was overweight when I got him, and I tried so hard to get him to lose the weight, but he wouldn't) I knew it would be risky keeping him since we likely won't have the money for vet bills if he gets hurt or sick. I ended the 1st semester with all A's.
January- My chicks arrived and one Legbar passed away two days after arrival. I had names picked out but didn't name them yet. My grades already were a lot lower than 1st semester (we get new classes each semester). Dad told me he's going to buy Mom goats, so I help him look for kids to buy.
February- I put 22 eggs in the incubator for fun, since there was no way all eggs could hatch. One egg showed no signs of development. We found a place to buy our registered Nigerian Dwarf show does, and we go meet the dams and sires to pick out whose kids we want.
March- 21 eggs hatched. I gave five chicks away to one of Dads' coworkers. I ended up taking five more from school- A few of my polish, a Bolt chick, and a random Porcelain Blue D'uccle. My grades are BAD. I have two C's and two B's. A drafting and design class is a C, and so is agriculture (Don't ask me how- I don't know), math and English are my b's. Late March all my grades slip and English is a C (I got it up to a B last week, don't worry) My agriculture grade is slowly creeping back up to a high C, but my drafting grade is "happily" sitting at a 70... I'm working on it. Math is somehow an 86 and English is an 87. We buy our goat kids, and start working on our goat pen. We won't pick our kids up until April (hopefully next week). I'm focused on getting all A's this semester again. I don't know why or how I slipped back into old habits. Dad doesn't know how awful my grades are. I was able to get an A in an honors biology class (which is made for students the grade higher than me) last semester, so I'm not sure why I am doing awful this semester.
Also, I named my "Christmas" chicks.
Legbar 1- Minerva (lighter colored neck)
Legbar 2- Aurora (darker colored neck)
BCM 1- Khione (white wing tips) Has feathered feet!
BCM 2- Terra (just a normal one) Has feathered feet!!
BCM 3- Venus (very little copper coloring) Has feathered feet!!!
EE 1- Iris (buff colored)
EE 2- Juno (silver colored)

Anyways, I'll see you once I'm an adult... Maybe. I still might pop in once a year, although I'll be an adult soon. I miss y'all.

In 23, I let my 3 welsummer broody hens hatch eggs.
For these Leghorns, I ordered them from McMurry. I was going to go with more Welsummers but my son has been wanting more eggs and Leghorns fill that billet. He has 7 kids, they go through a lot of eggs.
Currently of my 14 welsummers, I have had a 12egg day, so I know 12 are laying, one thinks she is broody. Welsummers don't lay everyday, I think all 13 are laying. So to be able to get my son eggs and to be able to sell some I am adding the laying machines.
I had Leghorns before we moved in Ja. 22, I loved them. I am getting a Welsummer rooster with this chick order. They are the very best docile roosters ever, but big.
so, Chick week is June 2.
Oh I look forward to babies! Please make sure to post. I am living vicariously through those of you with chicks since I won’t have any myself this year.

🥰

OK. I will stop complaining about the drop from 80°F to below freezing immediately.
Just brrrr.
No snow but still brrr.
We had freezing rain overnight, there is the sound of trees crashing all around me. I have a few branches down from the pine trees but nothing bad.

Lost the power twice over night, but only for about 10 or 15 min each time. Thank goodness I don’t live were my sister is - she and my niece have had no power since yesterday evening at 6pm.

My niece said it’s like a tornado went through - trees down everywhere. And her sump hole in the basement filled so fast her husband was bailing water all night - she’s 20 weeks pregnant so she is not to lift heavy buckets of water. So he had to do all the work. They are getting a generator this week she said!

This is why I have the generator here. I have been down that road of bailing water all night.

I had to bring the horses in it’s still pelting down here, and now trees are crashing down all over. The horses were getting riled up.

And the chooks were smart they came back inside when it started pelting down again.

Heaven help us if the wind picks up - that will finish off the trees. It’s beautiful on the trees but disasterous for them.

Work on the grades!

And don’t worry, you will be off to college or university soon, then out working and making money so you can get another horse if you wish.

Meanwhile I love the names for the chicks. Take time to enjoy the chickens a few minutes each day. And don’t forget to breath!

Oh yay! Freezing rain warning just ended! Now it’s just rain. Still not good with the weight on the trees.
