She is not someone who draws attention to herself. She moves through the day without controversy or significant achievement so she does not find herself the center of attention much. Hence, fewer photos. She is a real beauty and really the current stabilizing force in the tribe. She is also likely the next in line should something happen to Aurora as Hattie cannot lead when she does not move around a lot.

Clearly yellow skin, feathering in red, straight combs....first breed that comes to mind: Rhode Island Reds. Production Reds or Red Sex-links/Red Stars are also possible. Color wise, the red is dark enough that New Hampshire is unlikely.

Clean legs, so no cochin/brahma/French marans. Shape/comb makes me say they're not Red Wyandottes (yes they exist, but hard to find). Red Leghorns also exist, but are rare enough to be unlikely too. No crest so all those + crosses are also out.

Currently best guess: Rhodies or one of the production derivatives.

Yes. It has fiber so it fills you up and has some minerals that we need (I forget what) so as you say, as long as it is without the ‘toppings’ it is pretty good for you particularly if trying to lose weight.

How did you survive without this camera?

I spent all day yesterday praying for my uncle. 30 years in the coal mines left him with black lung. 3 weeks ago he was put on the transplant list and had to be hospitalized as home oxygen was no longer enough. His family got the call Tuesday evening that a donor had been found. He went it at noon yesterday for a double lung transplant. The surgery lasted 10 hours but the new lungs are working perfectly. I found out a few minutes ago that he is back in the operating room for the 2nd time overnight for bleeding. It is not the new lungs it is small vessels around the lungs that are causing problems. I'm praying hard that this surgery is successful and he can begin the journey of healing.

So fortunate to have gotten a transplant. I hope to read that he is doing better as I catch up.

Seeds seem better received than grains w/ our hens. DH offered a seed crusted whole grain bread slice & the girls devoured the seeded crust & left the grain bread behind

It is interesting to note how some chickens love certain foods and others won't touch them. Fascinating.

Slow poke is actually looking lavender....

Is lavender also called a self-blue? or does self-blue mean that two lavender parents will always breed true? Lavender & self-blue are terms I wasn't aware of when we started w/backyard birds 14 yrs ago. Then terms like pearl, mille fleur, porcelain, exchequer, etc, were new terms to me too.

I understand that money is the issue. That said, I think the manufacture of this product should rethink its design and make it a safer product

It would likely take a lawsuit to get them to change it.

So sorry to see Chickenlandia lose her precious Buff Silkie roo & thinks it may have been an injury to his delicate head. (Polish & Silkies have those open skulls prone to injuries). If you cry easily you may not want to watch but I find her videos helpful.

Tractor Supply has them. Cardinals love safflower seeds.
