So since we have heard silkies like to sleep in “piles” instead of on roosts, Plus have so many young chicks right now, we have made a few upgrades to the coop. Here is a pic of a huge shelf, with a rim around it to hold some sand and a ramp for getting up and down. The ramp is hinged for when I need to get under the shelf for anything.

We also put some narrow strips of plywood on some of the 2x4s that frame the walls. You can see one of them up above the big shelf.

Some of the larger chicks took advantage of the big shelf to check out the nest boxes. I think there were six of them in one box at the same time. :lau

OMG, they look all grown up there! 🥰 🥰 🥰

Just like with human kids - they look too old too quick - tweens that look 18!😆.

They are lovely ladies - and I see Aurora is already keeping a watchful eye on the tweens to be sure they don't get into trouble and need a little reprimanding! (lucky for them the fence is still there! I know you have demonstrated (or she has) that she is good with chicks - takes them under her wing - at what point does she start treating them as adults and reprimand when they aren't towing the line???)

Message Received

Lady Featherington finally got to deliver her first message today. Everyone was out enjoying the morning separated by the fence line. I watched Lady Featherington with great interest as she was clearly trying to figure out a way to get at the Phyllistines.

Sadly Niamh got so close to the fence that her head poof was poking through. Lady Featherington saw her chance and did not miss it. It looks like 4 feathers were removed from Niamh's poof.

The scene of the crime....

The Phyllistines are now huddled back in the big run. Wiser for the ways of the cruel world.

Come on Bob, won’t you be nice to animals? :gig

You should see me chasing them away - they run/waddle real fast away from me, stop and look to see if I am following them run/waddle away again hahaha

Finally the fly away. But not until the feel that I have been suitably winded from all the running. Bad geese!

That’s also the chooks strategy- wonder who taught whom that!
