What is up with all the little ones? I give them a fresh ear of corn and they like the stringy stuff on the husks better?
Especially little Gizmo. That one digs through the trash to get the stuff.

So since we have heard silkies like to sleep in “piles” instead of on roosts, Plus have so many young chicks right now, we have made a few upgrades to the coop. Here is a pic of a huge shelf, with a rim around it to hold some sand and a ramp for getting up and down. The ramp is hinged for when I need to get under the shelf for anything.

We also put some narrow strips of plywood on some of the 2x4s that frame the walls. You can see one of them up above the big shelf.

Some of the larger chicks took advantage of the big shelf to check out the nest boxes. I think there were six of them in one box at the same time.

Curious chickies so anxious to explore! Adding the shelf & ramp great idea!

Note, we have one Silkie that simply will not use our ramp going up. We thought maybe it was too steep for her so we raised the bottom more level w/bricks & she still wouldnt use it. I finally asked DH to put steps made out of cinder blocks & paver stones alongside the ramp & she started using those steps. She still hesitates as the video shows:

Careful at the swaps, you don't want to bring home any diseases

Make sure you quarantine for at least 3 weeks; might also be a good idea to worm them (I used Revolution - Kitten/Puppy strength, which also treats for lice and mites - easy to use, just like your cat/dog it goes on their back between their wings).

PONY SUNDAY PUPS

DH has been puppy sitting DD/SILs dogs the whole weekend. The only time he gets pics of the Golden Retriever & brindle Pitmix is when they're snoozing! I have several past puppysitting pics of them & all look the same!

The big news from the gang at FBA is that the littles are growing up and becoming independent.
They are really beginning to show Phyllis vibes, but have distinct chickenalities.
Poor Bob is no longer needed to carry them to bed.
His assistance was not needed on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday
Still not needed on Wednesday. Or Thursday. Do we get the sense Bob is missing his transportation duties?!
The littles are out and about.

It is sad to see one so young lose his cognitive ability and be unable to tell the days of the week - sharing mugs, two-fers, and Thirsty Thursday all on Friday. He also now seems to have two BYC accounts!
