She looks like me in the morning before coffee! ☕
What Will They Look Like?

The chicks @jaricas19 got now look like this.

They are buff orpington and barred rock crosses. @rural mouse any thoughts on what they will look like when full grown?

Also, I see 2 boys for sure. What does everyone else think?
@jaricas19 welcome to BYC, BYBob has the friendliest and most helpful thread and we look forward to watching your flock grow. They are gorgeous!

The photo’s:
In my opinion, 1&4 are boys. I am quite suspicious of 5 as well given the prominent but not yet pink comb.

Beauties all of them ♥️♥️

I would do that. Good for you. :thumbsup

Next year may do it again! Dark Brahma are still on my list 🥰

1 & 4 are cockerels. 3 might be also...and is not a buff orp x barred rock. The white (silver) would show in a sex-link type cross if done right, however, a barred rock crossed with a buff orp (roo x hen or hen x roo) will produce single barred birds (roo x hen: all offspring barred, possible gold leakage) or gold pullets and barred cockerels (hen x roo: gold pullets, barred cockerels possibly with gold leakage, also barred).

5. Looks more like a buff orp x black australorp. Keep an eye on the shoulders. If a rusty red tone appears, it's a cockerel too. Comb is in the can't quite tell either way stage.

2. Looks light enough to be a gold x silver cross (gold roo, silver hen)

6 and 2 are definitely pullets. Could be split to something, could be barred hen crossed with buff orp roo but not other way around.

Pretty birds, leakage is going to make them even more interesting

Barnyard mixes are my absolute favourites ♥️ It’s alway so much fun seeing what one gets colour wise!

Wry neck??

Rue who is about 9.5 weeks old appears to have developed this condition. She still has balance and locomotion. She is eating and drinking normally. Neither her nor anyone else has shown any signs of illness at all. I have not changed feed, except a bag of black soldier fly larvae I brought. This is day two and she does seem improved today. She does still seem to be twisting but not as dramatically as yesterday.

What I have done so far:
Yesterday, immediately put Poultry Cell into their water. It’s all they have so I know she will have to drink it.
Today I bought some black oil sunflower seeds as I read it has very high Vitamin C and selenium in them.

I am flummoxed, I have been feeding either Nutrenia or Kalmbach 18% chick feed as I always have and never have I had this issue. Thought? Could it be the larvae?

She was doing this a lot not all the time though but definitely often enough to be not at all normal. Today she isn’t like this at all but just holding her head off to the side.

I seem to recall @Royal Chick saying B12 and Vit E.

Found this online:

Wry neck can be a symptom of a Vitamin B1 (thiamine) deficiency.

Chicks can be more prone to a Vitamin B1 deficiency if they are fed medicated chick feed for too long. The coccidiostat Amprolium in medicated chick feed can inhibit the absorption and utilization of Vitamin B1.

Chicks can also be more prone to dietary deficiencies if their parents’ diet was deficient in vitamins as well”

I had 1&4 as cockerels and 3 as a maybe as well.

Interesting that they aren't barred rock/ buff orp crosses. That's what they are sold as but not a total surprise. They did come from a "farm" without a lot of breed control I imagine.

She really is. I love her little eagle face.

The last three were Slowpoke, Copper, and Comrade. I wanted to keep them longer but they were getting too violent.
We have kept Breezy, Cemani, and Nosy Posy.
Chicken math includes subtraction sadly.

I went shopping earlier this morning and bought a pearl necklace to reward my friend from church, who always gave me chicken gifts . I think that they would look lovely on her. She always tries to look nice when I see her. Is this friendship gift a bit too much?View attachment 4149916
That's a very special gift. I hope she will accept it from you.
