And last night, that bunny let Fenix get way too close before it ran. It was maybe 5 feet away from him. It isn't scared of us humans either.

Found two little soft eggs in the coop this morning. I think Nosy Posy takes his time getting out of the coop because he's eating the soft eggs in the mornings, I didn't let him today because I wanted to see if I could tell who laid them.

Simple Jenn has the fluffiest of butts, I’m jealous!

Non-bearded are keepers. I didn't think so till we got this little Moorhead. She's our funny girl & has the cutest tiny wattles & the turquoise ears show up better.

She is lovely.

I like both bearded and non-bearded. I cannot help it though I lean a little more towards the bearded being my favorite. Same with feathered feet in general, I lean towards liking feathered feet better.

I will say though the non-bearded ones can see better without the need of trims. If my crew was free-ranging trimming would be needed and I would not get to enjoy those full beards and crests as much.

With the chicks it is helpful though that they do not have beards because I can stare and dare any wattle development to start for a few more weeks. Right now my only clue on genders would be the sudden appearance of wattles. They are too young to base anything off how they are feathering in. Bingo's and Lucky's coloring is a reassuring sign right now. Soft muted colors, pullet like. Another thing to keep a check on during the rest of their juvenile molts. That gold needs to not turn a vibrant orange or red.

I'm trying to be realistic though and prepare myself for at least 1 boy. I got lucky last year with a all pullet silkie hatch. I've got everything crossed in hopes that Bluey and Calypso are pullets.

I intend to post more pics, hopefully today. They are, all five, doing well! Very active, playing and chasing each other, digging to China, and fairly skillfully jump-flying and leaping. I'm making more "Up" things for them.

The bearded are cute for show purposes but for safe free ranging the eyes/muffs need trimming anyway so I figure why not just have non-bearded from the beginning ~ they are just as smart & industrious as any other breed if their vision is not impaired. Our Silkies trim each other's faces ~ it's not feather picking, we saw our original 1st Silkie stick her face into another bird's beak asking to be facially groomed. The tradition has been carried on w/successive Silkies. We've trimmed the juveniles once we turned them loose in the yard but the older Silkies quickly trained them to trim each other's brows/cheek muffs.

Old Violet (in the garden bed) took it upon herself to be the Silkie beautician ~ her own face was always groomed clear of fuzz

She is cute as a button! She can also see. I do like this color, she looks so fancy to me.

I love the silkies now that I have had them. The thing I enjoy the most is how gentle they are.
Yes, they are like no other breed. I've been told the Cochin/Pekin bantams are equally great but their egg size is smaller than Silkies so we're happy with our Silkie quintet of smart sweet egg layers. DH is making another quiche today.
