Tax / entrance fee: some fluffy butts, and babies who've just spent their first night out with the big kids

Good morning, everyone. Sounds weird but let me word it this way: good late, late evening everyone. How was everyone's weekend? Here's a Mugshot Monday for you all and I'll have something later today. This is all I have at the moment. Another photo of Hawk when she wasn't feeling well. This week is going to be busy as we have guests coming in Friday and the house will be jam-packed, so I have to make sure everything is tidy and to make sure items are out of reach from small energetic children.

I will but didn't find anything about how to do it with Tiagard/Denagard. I didn't look extensively though. @Ponypoor

What would be the dose you make up with Tiagard 12.5%? I think I would figure the mg per pound, then get that into her - but I read to not use it undiluted, and that it can cause such nausea or something chickens would throw it up (if that's possible). That would be a terrible stress for Hazel, who is a nervous nelly to begin with.

I was hoping she would come around and drink more eventually but she never did.

I would need to know the actual amt of the medication. I’ll check it out in the morning.

Welcome! Oh babies how lovely! I am living vicariously through those who have babies this year.

Would love to see more of your lovely flock.

I have a ton of messages saved up to quote/reply to. Trying to finally get it done. Lol

I went shopping earlier this morning and bought a pearl necklace to reward my friend from church, who always gave me chicken gifts . I think that they would look lovely on her. She always tries to look nice when I see her. Is this friendship gift a bit too much?View attachment 4149916
I would say to was borderline a little too expensive. But fine as long as you made the intensions behind it very clear. Did you ever give it to her? I don’t remember seeing you post about that.

Phoenix is insane. I would not be able to tolerate living there.
I grew up in the Mesa/Tempe area and have also lived in several other parts of the state. It can definitely be pretty brutal.

How do people tell apart when they have so many of one breed and color? Hopefully when they are all laying they will be a bit more distinct.

Colored legbands are frequently used to tell similar birds apart. There does need to be regular checks on those to make sure they're not too tight or too loose. I've never used them.
I have used different color “wire ties” on mine. I agree you have to check them regularly, especially when the chicks are growing. And also be sure to cut the end off close to where it goes through the other end, so they can’t bite it or catch it on something and pull it tighter. This year I finally bought some “real” leg bands to use.

I cannot wait to see what he finds for you. He sounds like he is a true gem to work with. I don't recall all the color's he works with. He has white, black and partridge right? I hope he finds you a nice white pullet. White is growing on me, and a nice white is stunning. I may have missed it but is either Nyx or Pebble a cockerel?
I think I saw you post about being pretty sure some of your silkie chicks are “dominant white”. How do you know? Is there any way to tell if silkie’s are dominant or recessive when they came from a hatchery like mine did, or without breeding them?

I noted it before, HRH has a lovely comb, but no wattles (bearded chooks I guess don't have wattles??? ). But I cannot remember seeing other chooks that have lovely combs but no wattles.

Who else out there has one or the other (wattles no comb or comb no/small wattles).
Griffon has a comb but no wattles. And usually she has a beard, but lately it seems to be plucked most of the time. This isn’t a great picture. What might look like a wattle is actually he reddish/pink throat.

Like this one? Cassie’s feathers are really getting pretty.

My Dominique will come inside as well but she is usually only vocal about food.

My Welsummer likes to make lots of noise and will tell me off/express her feelings.
Speedy (my Welsummer) is very vocal. And she has a special “it’s too hot” sound she only makes during the summer. I have even heard her murmuring it when she is sleeping.
